Alleged ownership by Bishop of Shrewsbury[edit]

I have raised a citation need against this sentence, as I feel this needs checking by those better informed on Shropshire ecclesiastical history:

The manor was owned at one time by the bishop of Shrewsbury and it had its own church.[sic]

I question it on two grounds. The only Bishops of Shrewsbury (apart from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Shrewsbury's bishops) have been suffragans under the Diocesan Bishop of Lichfield, in whose territory Fitz and Montford Bridge have remained no further back than the later 19th century. Manor houses usually had chapels rather than churches. Note that the village of Fitz has had its own parish church.Cloptonson (talk) 19:21, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
