May 2011 news[edit]

Aboutmovies, Whether you think this is not news...this loss of service during IT upgrade is a major issue for this bank and its members. It's not the first time either. I'm guessing you don't bank there. Wikipedia also serves the needs of members and nonmembers who need accurate information on the subject. The information is still accurate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cyclopedic (talkcontribs) 01:36, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a news distributor, news outlet, bulletin board, or public message announcement service. AM's removal of transitory operational issues is entirely appropriate. If there is pattern of weak IT, unexpected locked doors, sudden collapse of the chain, etc., then that would be suitable for a proportional treatment if—and only if—reliable, secondary and tertiary sources provide adequate coverage are cited. —EncMstr (talk) 03:04, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Changing the title[edit]

Is there an easy way to change the title/URL? The word "Federal" is missing from both. --MThomas1222 (talk) 21:09, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The "move" operation is how an article is renamed. However, see WP:NAME: Wikipedia uses the most widely known name, not necessarily the official name. Do you have reason to believe that it is most commonly referred to as First Tech Federal Credit Union, or similar? —EncMstr (talk) 22:01, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. I do have reason to believe it should be called First Tech Federal Credit Union. That is the dba name of the company, and all marketing and branded communications refer to it as such. If you need any more information please let me know. --MThomas1222 (talk) 18:13, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please read the Wikipedia policy WP:NAME: it is not a mere guideline. Wikipedia does not care about the "official" or marketing-approved branding of an organization. We title articles according to what is most widely recognized by lay people. I have a friend working at First Tech and she calls it exactly that. A scan of newspaper articles and a Google search shows First Tech Credit Union is hands-down the most common usage. Do you have any evidence that a variation with Federal is more widely used? —EncMstr (talk) 18:44, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
