Death-spiral HatNote[edit]

I added a necessarily verbose HatNote reading

This article is about spirals executed with the spiraling skater's center of gravity close to the axis of rotation. For the four types of far-off-balance spirals, see Death spiral (figure skating).

because:

  1. Most non-specialists would otherwise assume the death spiral and its 3 variations should be considered "figure skating spirals", and wade into the article searching for them.
  2. Omitting "... For the four types of far-off-balance spirals..." would mislead those who don't realize that the life spiral, cosmic spiral, and love spiral are types of skating death spiral; they may thus assume that Death spiral (figure skating) is restricted to what people mean when they say "Charlotte spiral", "Charlotte death spiral", "classic death spiral", or "original death spiral".
  3. Omitting "executed with the spiraling skater's center of gravity close to the axis of rotation" would produce counterproductive shock and awe by suddenly, at the last-moment, introducing into the discussion the (AFAICsee necessary) classical mechanics concepts.

Why Spiral Dropped in sp?[edit]

Why was the spiral dropped from the sp in 2010? This should be mentioned.50.202.81.2 (talk) 17:38, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
