Fresh water?

The article states that there are no major rivers or lakes on the Faroe Islands so I was wondering how is there enough fresh water to not only sustain a population but also enough to supply breweries on the islands. This is a somewhat old question, but List of lakes of the Faroe Islands would be relevant here. As for "major rivers or lakes", it depends on what you mean by that. If you are thinking about rivers like the Ganges then you would be correct; the islands are simply not big enough for that. Contradiction?

The section Relationship with Denmark says

The Faroe Islands have been under Danish control since 1388.

This contradicts the history section, which says it was controlled by Norway prior to the Kalmar Union of 1814. Loraof (talk) 20:12, 5 April 2015 (UTC)

I must regretfully inform you that the statement above, in the section "Relationship with Denmark", is correct. Norway was put under Danish rule from the 14th century. Wikarth (talk) 15:19, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

Infobox - settlement?

Why doesn't the infobox contain a "settlement" section under "Formation", as the Icelandic one does? I think there is no written account of the actual settlement of the Faroe Islands, as it is in Iceland. Wikarth (talk) 15:20, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

Meaning of the word Faroe?

Does anyone have any idea what the word "Faroe", or its variations can mean? Certainly phonetically, its resemblance to pharoh is startling to say the least. And just as certain, there did have to be a meaning of this word at some time!96.19.147.40 (talk) 19:28, 26 March 2013 (UTC)Ronald L. Hughes

In the original Faroese (Føroyar) it apparently means "Sheep Islands". In Danish the word for it's Færøerne, which I can translate to "Fær Islands" where Fær is not a real word. The word "fár" (where the á is a sound similar to "aw" in English), actually meant "sheep" in Old Norse. The expression "saudhr" for "sheep" which is the modern Norwegian word for the animal, is far newer and just means "the animal we boil". Wikarth (talk) 15:23, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

Why is there the name in Norwegian Bokmål?

Condense Climate tables

Suggestion: hide Climate tables (other than Torshavn) to make article more readable. The tables can easily be expanded by clicking Show. TGCP (talk) 20:59, 30 November 2015 (UTC)

The tables have now all been removed, but one should remain (maybe Tórshavn - perhaps hidden?) to show conditions and variations, as is common for other country articles. TGCP (talk) 09:48, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

Demographics and people from the Philippines and Thailand

The recent addition says "300 women from the Philippines and Thailand make up the largest ethnic minority in the Faroes", citing a BBC article. The BBC article says "There are now more than 300 women from Thailand and Philippines living in the Faroes."

Later in the same section it says that the 2011 census reported that of people 15 or older, '147 came from Asia'. Those census numbers are now rather out of date.

According to Statistics Faroe Islands at http://statbank.hagstova.fo/pxweb/en/H2/H2__IB__IB01/fo_fodland.px/table/tableViewLayout1/?rxid=436d4c4c-510c-4e49-a47e-3e447d21585b there are 149 females from the Philippines and 106 females from Thailand, making 255 women from the Philippines and Thailand. There are also 54 men.

It looks like the BBC article is in error, and is reporting the total number of people from Thailand and Philippines, and not just the number of women. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.3.31.200 (talk) 14:57, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

NPOV and Citations in Relationship with Denmark

As stated, there is an almost complete lack of citations, and quite clearly pro-independence language in this section (especially when compared with the 1946 Referendum article). Balag12 (talk) 22:09, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

Nobel Prize

How can there be no mention of Niels Ryberg Finsen on this page, in some history or notable people section? 1903 Nobel Prize laureate from the Faroe Islands! Pretty impressive considering the population of just 15,000 at the time. Smt42 (talk) 22:25, 21 January 2018 (UTC)

Feel free to add some information, if you can reference a source! As the page stands currently, it proudly mentions the "most Nobel laureates per capita", but doesn't mention who it was! Gwideman (talk) 08:36, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Status as constituent country

I have never heard of the term "constituent country" being used in the any way, when talking about any Danish territory before and only one of the sources used to back up the claim only uses the term to describe the relationship between Scotland and Wales, towards the UK. I propose the term is dropped and a more suitable term is used. The territories are not recognized as countries in Denmark, in any way, but are considered territories with extensive, but still limited, self governance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.107.15.50 (talk • contribs) 12:44, 18 July 2021 (UTC)

I have (attempted to) remove the term, since it seemed to be unsourced, and that seems to be the consensus since no one objected here. I think ideally ambiguous terms such as just the "Faroe Islands" should be used where possible. — Lauritz Thomsen (talk) 19:45, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
