Re: Restaurant[edit]

It looks like the building also once had gas pumps outside (judging by the overhang--examples: Rome, Boyer, Rock Creek, Burnt Woods, Airlie), likely in conjunction with the store. Probably some library research would turn up more history. Katr67 (talk) 18:01, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It was for a long time the Twin Oaks Tavern (Stark's Twin Oaks Airpark is nearby), and my dad remembers when it was a store, but doesn't recall it having gas pumps. So, assuming there were pumps, which is likely, they would have been gone by circa 1950. Aboutmovies (talk) 17:23, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. I saw that it was called Twin Oaks Tavern for a long time, and at some point went upscale to Twin Oaks Bar & Grill. From the searching I did, the tavern was definitely a landmark (e.g. "turn left at Twin Oaks Tavern"). I thought about mentioning the tavern by name in the article because of this, but I wasn't sure if it was always called that. Also it sounds like it might not have spent the majority of time as a tavern as claimed in my reliable sources but closer to 50/50. Any idea where these twin oaks are and why they are significant? I know, I know, Just Google It... Katr67 (talk) 19:33, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know about where the famed Twin Oaks are. But if I did, then I think I'd have to kill you. As to its time as a tavern, my dad said it was a store, then a restaurant, then transitioned into a tavern. I only remember the tavern, then empty, and now what you see in the picture (which I drive by everyday on my way to my new home). It's about 5 minutes from where I sort of live, so at some point when it is nice and sunny I'll try and get a pic of the bridge. Now, don't forget to write about Hazeldale, Oregon, its just up OR10 from Farmington. Hopefully the old store is still there and I can get a pic of it. Aboutmovies (talk) 08:47, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I think I saw a pic of the Hazeldale store in the Salem library archive and it looked interesting. Your county is too thick with small towns--I think I prefer {{Hood River County, Oregon}}! Katr67 (talk) 19:19, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Another Farmington Schoolhouse[edit]

Different from the one I linked to. Friedman mentions a schoolhouse but I couldn't make heads or tails of the directions and couldn't find anything using street view on Google Maps. Katr67 (talk) 21:02, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The other one is on Rood Bridge Rd. Katr67 (talk) 21:18, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
First one is actually in Kinton. Katr67 (talk) 22:23, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

() I guess you coulda told me that... Oh well. Katr67 (talk) 23:27, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I knew about the Rood Bridge one, my parents lived on Morgan Road at about Minter Bridge and I ran/drove around there a bunch. Plus Hilhi is on the same street, as is Rood Bridge Park. But I didn't know it was known as "Farmington". As a kid I always thought it was odd that Farmington was so far from Farmington View Elementary, and I don't think you can see it from there either. And I don't ever recall seeing a school house right around there, its pretty much only been a few houses, the tavern, the bridge, and the four-way stop.
