Requested move 22 July 2018[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

Moved as proposed. Consensus is clear. The fact that the previous occupant of the title was moved without discussion prior to initiation of the discussion is problematic, but does not by itself counter the clear policy-based consensus for the move. bd2412 T 02:28, 12 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Excess baggage (disambiguation)Excess Baggage – The redirect Checked baggage#Excess baggage consists of three sentences which seem insufficient to constitute a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT. There are five uppercase "B" Excess Baggage titles that form the majority of dab page entries. Anyone researching excessive weight permitted for travel, will still have the Excess baggage link, at the top of the dab page, to those three sentences within the Checked baggage article.     Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 16:48, 22 July 2018 (UTC) --Relisting. Anarchyte (work | talk) 04:38, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • To be clear, you are proposing that the disambiguation page move to the capitalized title, while the uncapitalized title continues to redirect to Checked baggage#Excess baggage? bd2412 T 19:33, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the requested clarification. I feel that if Excess baggage (disambiguation) is moved to Excess Baggage, Excess baggage should then redirect to the Excess Baggage disambiguation page where the previously mentioned Checked baggage#Excess baggage explanatory link would flow to the three-sentence relevant text in the Checked baggage article.    Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 19:46, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'd say it would be clearer if "Excess Baggage" was the DAB, yes it may get more views but as I pointed out I think it would be clearer if 1997 film was also disambiguated, based on the 2nd criteria of PTOPIC. Crouch, Swale (talk) 11:09, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • A hatnote would be sufficient–better to get 87% of the people where they want to go from the start. Dekimasuよ! 18:29, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support All other uses other than the primary redirect with lower case use the upper case. Crouch, Swale (talk) 13:10, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
To be clear I support keeping "Excess baggage" as the primary redirect to Checked baggage#Excess baggage but Excess Baggage should be the DAB per In ictu oculi, as pointed out it doesn't make particularly clear that "Excess Baggage" doesn't refer to baggage. Crouch, Swale (talk) 11:25, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: @In ictu oculi: The way I've read the discussion is that the plan is to redirect Excess baggage to the new disambiguation page (Excess Baggage), assuming this passes. @Zxcvbnm and JHunterJ: I'm a tad confused by your WP:DIFFCAPS rationale as it says that different capitalisation is usually sufficient to distinguish between two topics. The proposition here says that it isn't, so it's as though you're opposing the request. The dab page will be moved to Excess Baggage and then Excess baggage will redirect there. Apologies if I've misunderstood, but could you please clarify? Cheers, Anarchyte (work | talk) 09:29, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • Thanks! I have struck my earlier !vote and re!voted. -- JHunterJ (talk) 12:33, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
      • Thanks! I think I was confused by the target having been redirected 22:11, 22 July 2018‎ by Station1 , I've undone Station1's change. I also have added film poster for the other film. Adding graphics a lot more use than ambiguating titles. In ictu oculi (talk) 13:33, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
        • That statement is highly misleading. As I stated above, there was an undiscussed move in 2015 from Excess Baggage to Excess Baggage (1997 film) but Excess Baggage continued to redirect to the film from the date of the move until Roman Spinner redirected it to the dab page at the time he made this move proposal. I reverted that edit 5 hours later with the edit summary "rv pending move discussion, avoid breaking links". Not sure how that could be more clear. Station1 (talk) 04:12, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: Why should Excess Baggage link to a film. Excess Baggage should directly link to the disambiguation page. Just cause it is a film does not mean it should be the search result. If there was no movie Excess Baggage, then the search result would be disambiguation page, that make no sense. Aceing_Winter_Snows_Harsh_Cold (talk) 03:16, 11 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
