Notability[edit]

The prod was removed earlier by another user, so I assume I should make a case here before going for an AfD. This website seems to be rather minor. It says it involves several nations, but this basically means it has information on potatoes from those countries. Its Alexa ranking is around 3 million and on the front page it even says 12188 visitors since pulication. I'll probably take this to AfD in a few days if nobody brings any new information to light. --Wafulz 20:10, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You may be correct that this website is of minor interest but it is of major interest to the small numbers of people involved in the breeding of commercial potato varieties and the maintenance of genetic diversity within an important food crop eaten daily by millions of people. ECPD is the world's first collaborative database of potato variety descriptions, actively maintained by more than [20 scientific institutes] and is already the largest information source of its kind on the Internet. Yes. ECPD is one of a number of genebank resources being set up under the umbrella of The European Cooperative Programme for Crop Genetic Resources Networks. (ECP/GR) was founded in 1980 on the basis of the recommendations of the United Nations Environment Programmes (UNEP), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Genebank Committee of the European Association for Research on Plant Breeding (EUCARPIA).

ECP/GR is a collaborative programme among most European countries aimed at ensuring the long term conservation and facilitating the increased utilization of plant genetic resources in Europe. Currently 36 countries are members of ECP/GR (since July 2003). The Programme operates through nine broadly focused networks dealing with groups of crops or general themes related to plant genetic resources.
