On Commons, Commons:Eupatorium fortunei redirects to Commons:Eupatorium japonicum, and says "(Synonym: Eupatorium fortunei Turcz.)". – Quadell (talk) 21:11, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure the best sources are online. A draft of Flora of China recognizes (among others) E. fortunei and E. chinense, with E. japonicum being included in E. chinense. Schmidt and Shilling in [1] seem to be following the same list (although they don't discuss the matter in any detail). So my guess is that Eupatorium japonicum should be merged into Eupatorium chinense but I'm not sure. (At the risk of stating the obvious, "synonym" in this context is not a simple matter, but a matter of where boundaries are drawn between different species).
