Notability[edit]

Hansen meets the WP:BIO "published authors, editors and photographers" notability requirement. A Google search on "Eric Hansen Notre Dame" brings up many discussions of his work as a newspaper writer and book author, and the award for one of his books. I have restored the previous version of the article, with ISBN numbers for his books. Casey Abell 17:17, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another Eric Hansen[edit]

There's another writer called Eric Hansen, the writer of Stranger in the forest. I was thinking about writing articles about him and the book, but first a decision has to be made how to disambiguate between the two. Then again ... two? Googling 'Eric Hansen' gives many different results, neither of which appears to be more prominent than any other. So I suppose this article (this title) should become a general disambiguation. This Eric Hansen could then become Eric Hansen (sports writer). For 'my' Eric I was thinking of Eric Hansen (travel writer), but, confusingly, there's another person who could deserve that title. What about Eric Hansen (hiking writer) for him? DirkvdM 09:04, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You could do a disambig page. But if there are only two articles, you could just post a note at the top of this article about the other Eric Hansen, with a link to his article. You see this all the time in WP. An example is at the top of the John Derbyshire article:
The subject of this article is the author. See also John Derbyshire (swimmer).
For this article, the note would be: "The subject of this article is the sportswriter. For the hiking writer, see Eric Hansen (hiking writer)." Casey Abell 12:43, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I know that, I'm an experienced editor. However, that is usually done when there are just two or three meanings, one of which is the one that people are most likely searching for. But there appear to be loads of people by this name and none of them is better known than any of the others, at least judging by the google results. Of course we could do it the way you suggest, but since there are (at least) three writers, that could eventually lead to a mess that would require the intervention of an admin. Also, having a bunch of red links in the disambiguation page will more likely lead to people writing at least a stub about these people. DirkvdM 12:27, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. It's fine with me if you create a disambig page and move this article to Eric Hansen (sportswriter). Casey Abell 17:16, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
