First playoff game[edit]

I'm going to add some informations about his playing against the Ravens in the playoffs. He marked carrer-high solo tackles and pass-deflected, while also tying his carreer-high for tackles. I think that's relevant. --Snitor (talk) 21:04, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Defensive two point conversion[edit]

I note that Lizard the Wizard reverted my edit adding defensive two point conversion as a career stat, noting that such stats aren't recorded on Wikipedia even for players on offense let alone defense. As to why they aren't included for the offense: I would argue that they probably should be. Two point conversions do seem to be a valid stat: see for example [1] which is a reliable source (ESPN) and lists two point conversions showing a career total of 2 two point conversion by Michael Crabtree. It is true that Crabtree's Wikipedia page doesn't show this stat but it is unclear to me why Wikipedia would omit what appears to be a valid statistic. As for recording them for players on defense, Berry's achievement is a first at least in the NFL so no precedent has been established. I must confess that omitting a scoring statistic for a player on offense makes no sense to me. Lizard the Wizard is correct that there seems to be precedent there when it comes to players on offense but the precedent makes little sense to me. Dash77 (talk) 01:28, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I believe this precedent is because 2-point conversions are "invisible stats", as in, a quarterback doesn't get credited with a completion, a receiver doesn't get a reception, etc. These plays thus are often overlooked. There's also the fact that it's relatively rare, unless your head coach is Mike Tomlin. The chances of Berry doing it ever again are obviously extremely low, so I don't really see a reason to have a column dedicated for something that will likely only ever happen once. Where is a good place to discuss what statistics are included in the statistics table for NFL players? The thing is that I agree with you that we first need to discuss this for the offense--it would indeed make no sense to include this stat for the even rarer 2 point conversion on defense but omit it when it happens on offense (definitely somewhat more frequent). But I haven't found where a good place is on Wikipedia to discuss what stats are included versus not included. Do you know where? This question goes beyond Berry at this point. In 2015 there were about 45 successful two point conversions in the NFL meaning an average of about two or three per week. At least IMHO that is not so rare (when talking about 2 pt conversions on offense) as to merit being omitted completely although the 2pt conversion is certainly far less common than the TD. Others of course may disagree but I'd like to find out where the appropriate place is to have this discussion as I don't seem to know where that is. As I said this is not primarily about Berry at this point. Dash77 (talk) 01:52, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The place would be the talk page of WikiProject NFL, although I'd first suggest looking into which players have had the most 2-point conversions and then adding them to their stats tables. I can't imagine anyone would object in that case. My issue is when a player has only a few of them in their career (maybe 3 or less), as I feel then it's a waste of table space. Lizard (talk) 01:57, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Here is a list of career leaders in 2-point conversions. As you can see, only 24 players have had more than 3 in their career. Lizard (talk) 02:00, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I added a discussion point about this at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Football League. Dash77 (talk) 20:49, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I also added the statistic as a test case to the page of Matt Forte who has 6--one of the all time leaders. One challenge here is that two point conversions don't seem to be officially categorized as rushing or receiving like touchdowns are. Dash77 (talk) 21:28, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

correction[edit]

if you are going to list berry as a free agent, at least do it correctly. the words “free agent” in his lead should not be capitalized. Bears247 (talk) 20:24, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure if you're aware but I did complete this request. Hey man im josh (talk) 17:34, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

remove number[edit]

Berry needs his number removed from the info box so it appears as other free agent players do rather than former players Bears247 (talk) 23:41, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Fair point, I removed the number. Hey man im josh (talk) 00:02, 30 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

berry’s status[edit]

sorry if i seem like i’m beating this to death, because i may be lol, but I was just wondering if we could have a discussion about berrys status between free agent and former Josh. You mentioned earlier that you prefer to use the 2 year mark to declare a player “former”, and in Berry’s case, it has even been over 3 years. I understand that I am banned from this page, but I feel that my intent was correct I just went about it the wrong way with an edit war. Thanks Bears247 (talk) 01:51, 30 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

former vs free agent[edit]

as discussed, the consensus is now after 2 years out of the league we move from free agent to former. Berry has not played in 3 years, and I would just like to have a confirmation that it is acceptable to make this change, rather than just changing it right now with the risk of possible block. Bears247 (talk) 21:26, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really have a valid reason to oppose. I've removed free agent from the lead and from current team. We don't need to state that he's retired since we don't know whether he's filed retirement paperwork or not. Hey man im josh (talk) 17:38, 27 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
