With regard to the linking problem, maybe the title of this article should be called "Emergent Literacy,' which is the more commonly used name. Mematthews (talk) 22:44, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nicole and Erin - I got us started by putting up the most basic definition!
LaurenEditor (talk) 02:03, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi girls, i hope you're having good weeks. so, in order for us to work best together, i think it might make the most sense for us to each try to gain a basic understanding of the concept of emergent literacy, and then try to break it down into different sections, with each member have primary responsibility over a specific section (while all still working together for editing and cohesion). so, as we go along familiarizing ourselves, why don't we also start creating headings for logical categories, and then we can discuss who can take the lead on which sections? also, as are going along familiarizing ourselves with the concept, we can add whatever cites we used to the reference section on the page to speed up the process and share the knowledge. sound okay? - Nicole Nsoltanzadeh (talk) 20:20, 14 April 2011 (UTC) 24.1.8.10 (talk) 20:18, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

hi Erin and Lauren, so, i've been adding a bit to the page. please feel free to change the organization or add whatever you feel might be useful! i just wanted to get some stuff on here before it was deleted (since it was marked for deletion this morning - yikes!). - Nicole Nsoltanzadeh (talk) 00:24, 17 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Erin and Lauren, Some content still needs to be added to the page, esp with regard to lessons/activities (i put in some links to use as resources if you need them) and the specific skills outlined (some links are there too). The "history" section could also be beefed up, and we need to add the page to some categories. I've got some work to do today but if I get a chance I'll try to contribute a little more. Otherwise, feel free to add too (or suggest changes or whatever). - Nicole Nsoltanzadeh (talk) 14:03, 17 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nicole, Thanks so much for moving us forward! Apologies, I have been traveling and this is the first chance I've had to connect to the internet and check in. I'm going to start adding content under the subheads that are lighter on information. I'll give another update here when I'm done. Thanks! Lauren

Hi Nicole and Erin - I added an example activity for each of the six skills that Nicole outlined as the foundations of emergent literacy. One question I have about the page - it doesn't seem like our reference list is going in the right place? I'm not sure how to fix that. Erin, if you are planning to add to the page, maybe you could beef up the descriptions of each of the six skills for emerging literacy? We have one-sentence explanations as it stands, but based on my research on the activities, we may be able to elaborate on the explanations of these skills. Thanks! Lauren

Great! Thanks Lauren. Looks good. I moved the reference list to the right spot. I agree that if Erin wants to beef up the sections on "skills" we should be good to go. Sound okay to you? Erin, if you see anything while you are searching relevant to the other sections, of course, feel free to add! - Nicole Nsoltanzadeh (talk) 00:37, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi guys! so sorry I have been out of town this week and away from my computer. The page looks great so far. I will work on the "skills" section today and see if I can find anything else on "history" as well. What about adding categories? -Erin Erinfreier (talk) 18:19, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

no worries, erin. if you find other relevant categories in your research, definitely feel free to add or reconfigure the page! see you girls tomorrow. - nicole Nsoltanzadeh (talk) 18:42, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have added some things under "history" and "activities", including links to some additional activities. I'll add more if I find anything relevant or notable.- ErinErinfreier (talk) 19:08, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed the "categories". was anyone planning on adding to the "skills" section? i'll try to put it in complete sentences this afternoon at least if no one else does first... - nicole Nsoltanzadeh (talk) 14:21, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've added some activities for Print awareness, phonological awareness, and print motivation. I haven't quite figured out categories yet. Any ideas?-Erin Erinfreier (talk) 19:20, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Girls, I have added the link to Emergent Literacies to the blackboard discussion page, just so we can have it up before class tonight. --Erin Erinfreier (talk) 18:55, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New Additions[edit]

Hello, I am a student at University of California- Santa Barbara currently working on a project that involves choosing a Wikipedia article topic to research and contribute to. I have chosen Emergent Literacies, and I would like to add details into the Home-Life Environment, specifically how observation and modelling is crucial to children's emergent literacy. I will also add subtopics such as Bilingual Emergent Literacy, Adult Emergent Biliteracy, and also touch on emergent literacy in atypical students.
