Table of books[edit]

As promised, I converted the timeline list to a table. In order to make it easier to find works by their author, engraver and publisher, I added a column for each. Further, I was guided by the idea that a pure list of names and authors doesn't give the reader much of an impression of the scope of themes, number of emblems in the books and the distribution of publishing locations and languages, so I added columns for those, too. ~~Finally, since most of the books don't have an article on their own, but many are available elsewhere on the web in facsimile, I wanted to provide a column for external links.~~ I now realize that this has become much bigger than anticipated. Partly this is aggravated by the fact that even columns with very short information, such as the year or the number of emblems, get wider because of the headline. I also realize that the idea to sort the publishing locations by country may not as intuitive as I had thought. I would like for Amsterdam and Rotterdam not be at opposite sides of the table. If anyone has an idea how to accomplish that, let me know. — Sebastian 02:46, 16 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I tweaked it a bit and think it's passable now. Most importantly, I got rid of the "external links" column, since we can easily just add these links to the Titles, since it's only necessary when we don't have an article on the book, anyway. — Sebastian 03:19, 16 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed Vaticinia de Summis Pontificibus from the table. No mention of it as a forerunner is made in the text, and it certainly needs a reliable reference. The article concerning it on WP makes it clear that the MS did not have an emblematic function; it uses personal emblems but that does not make it an emblem book in the Renaissance sense. Hi, on commons, there is Devises et emblemes anciennes et modernes, tirées des plus celebres auteurs (1693) and Devises et emblemes anciennes et modernes, tirées des plus celebres auteurs (1712). Would they fit in table? Lotje (talk) 07:32, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
