Notability[edit]

If you think it wouldn't survive an AfD, please nominate it. See Lecomte, Albert Baumann, and Christine Robinson (and their AfDs (Lecomte, Baumann, and Robinson) as well. -- Jonel | Speak 00:59, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for posting those links, I hadn't stumbled across them before. You're correct that there does seem to be a moderate consensus behind including Olympic athletes, no matter how obscure, so I won't nominate for AfD at this point. I would like to see the article expanded however, which is the main reason I put up the importance tag as opposed to a prod, an WP:A7 (not knowing about those notability debates) or an AfD. As it is, however, I don't expect this article to ever grow beyond a two-line perma-stub. -David Schaich Talk/Cont 03:02, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with early Olympians is that there usually isn't all that much additional information on the ones who didn't win. Today, one can find quite a bit of information on practically any Olympic athlete (an offhand comment made on Wikipedia talk:Notability (people) about a last-place finisher in a 2004 swimming event being a poor candidate for an article led to Vilayphone Vongphachanh being created). It would be great to have more information, though I agree with you that the article isn't likely to ever contain much. The Olympic competition, however, probably is the most important thing she did. -- Jonel | Speak 04:41, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
