Colonist?[edit]

Maybe in the extreme sense of the word he was a colonist, but in the more common usage he was not. He was however the one time treasurer of colonizing efforts (Virginia Company). It has been said of him (W.R. Scott, "Joint Stock Companies to 1720") that he effected less in a time after the the great difficulies; King James I said of him (ibid Scott) ...after Sandys' first year in charge of the Virginia Company as treasurer, the "choose (nominated) the Devil if you will, but not Sir Edwin Sandys". The article also says he never traveled to Virginia but there is a document referenced on Ancestry.com: Record details
