Assessment[edit]

I am assessing this article as C-class. Does not yet reach B-class per WP:ASSESS, to do so it needs: A) More detail. It should summarise all schools on the board, including those with there own article. Most elementary schools and some middle/junior high schools do not usually require there own article (normally merged/re-directed to pages such as this), so a summary here of those is of importance. B) Needs third party and multiple sources, this is usually compulsory for articles per WP:N, so the article can't be really be B-class without them. C) Article contains in-line citations, which is great and is enough for B-class, but use of cite tags such as {{cite web}} as well would be even better. D) The article lead needs expanding, but does not need to be perfect for B-class. Camaron | Chris (talk) 12:37, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

possible change in name[edit]

User has been claiming that the name has changed from "Edmonton Catholic School District " to "Edmonton Catholic School Division " but I'm seeing media coverage from March 2021 still using "District" (CBC, Global News, Edmonton Journal, Globe and Mail, Toronto Star ...). The district's (or division's) web site seems to be offline.

Can anyone explain what is going on? Has the name officially changed, or is this just something the school board is using as branding? Meters (talk) 21:53, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

We need reliable sources either way. Meters (talk) 21:55, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Meters, no name change that I am aware of. The ECSD has actually be referring to itself as simply Edmonton Catholic Schools (ECS) for at least two decades. I did my planning thesis in 2001 and ECS was a resource for it. I remember OCDing back then how I didn't like the acronyms for the two school divisions were inconsistent (i.e., EPSB and ECS). I just had an afterthought recollection. Didn't the UCP garner criticism for unilaterally changing the names of school divisions some time back? Hwy43 (talk) 02:47, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And here we go. See paragraphs 7 through 9 here. That explains why the ECS annual reports' wording on their covers changes from "District" to "Division" in 2020/2021. Note the official legal name in this document compared to the legal name in this one. Hwy43 (talk) 03:07, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And finally the previous names are here and the changed ones are here. Aligns with the September 1, 2019 timing of the name change according to the news article. These two spreadsheets and more can be found here. Hwy43 (talk) 03:15, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Recent news article use "Edmonton Catholic School Division", or "Edmonton Catholic Schools".[1] I've made the move. 162 etc. (talk) 17:18, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
