The taxonomy of this group of plants is still under dispute as to a number of species. Rataj produced the latest revision (Aqua Press, 2004) but aspects of his previous conclusions have been disputed by Neils Jacobsen and others. I have tried to follow the general concensus, particularly the work of Christel Kasselmann in her definitive work Echinodorus published by Dahne Verlasg (2001). Being in German I can't understand the text but I can follow the species list. Hermeswiki 18:41, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Rataj's revisions of Echinodorus (and also Cryptocoryne) have been criticized heavily by professional taxonomists (something Rataj is not) and I think it would be unwise to give much weight to his classification. --Randykitty (talk) 11:37, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
