The Flag[edit]

I'm curious about the flag depicted in the article, which says it's an artist's rendition. Anyone know who the artist is? Also, what do the colors and shapes symbolize? I gather that the yellow circle in the center recalls Japan's rising sun, but that's all I really get.Rathersane 02:10, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Obliteration of the Self[edit]

"Obliteration of the Self" which is supposed to be the philosophy is very likely to be the ideal of Messhi Houkou (滅私奉公) which essentially means to "put the service to the public ahead of your personal interest". However, it is usually misrepresented to mean "sacrifice yourself for the interest of state". This ideal was strongly emphasized during WWII in Japan and thus there are many, especially among communists and socialists (as in Marxism-Leninism and not social democrats), who claims that the latter interpretation is the only and true meaning and this ideal is incompatible with modern "democratic" society.--Revth 08:04, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
