Please note: East Auckland and Auckland's Eastern Suburbs are considered different and separate areas that traditionally do not overlap. The term East Auckland only started to be used when what used to be generally referred to as the Howick-Pakuranga area started to expand well beyond its traditional boundaries with the development of several middle-class subdivisions on previous rural/industrial lands traditionally thought of as parts of South Auckland, eg, the greater Botany area, which also joined up several of the outlying eastern communities that were traditionally seen as as extension of the Howick community. While it may be confusing, East Auckland and Auckland's Eastern Suburbs should not be thought of as the same or an overlapping area. East Auckland begins where Auckland's Eastern Suburbs end! One can see that the distinction and separation remains clear by examining the local press. Too subjective! Especially about opinion based talk such as "As a slang term (usually offensive), many people rename some areas Chowick and Japuranga after the high number of East Auckland residents being of Chinese descent although immigration has led to a vibrant and interesting community." Firstly never heard Japuranga before, and secondly it is opinion based that immigration has actually led to a *MORE* vibrant and interesting community, it was also vibrant and interesting beforehand, just because something is more multi-racial/multi-cultural doesn't lead a place to automatically become more "pulsing with energy or activity" *(vibrant)*, or "arousing the interest" *(interesting)*. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.238.24.165 (talk) 09:20, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
