Dugout to Foxhole[edit]

Warren Sandel's story in Victory Season led me to this somewhat obscure book by Rick Van Blair. As an oral history project, I like the fact that Van Blair tracked down these players and interviewed them. The book is somewhat reminiscent of Lawrence Ritter's The Glory of Their Times, except that Ritter interviewed some of the biggest stars in baseball's earliest years while many of the players in Van Blair's book are not very well known and, compared to those in Ritter's book, did not accomplish as much on the field.

As other reviewers pointed out, Van Blair very remarkably does not delve into the players war time experiences even though the title of the book would suggest otherwise.EdJF (talk) 16:32, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
