Hair color[edit]

Is it up to us to decide which birth defects are 'snazzy' and which are not? I wouldn't consider his hair to be a "birth defect". Apparently he just has vitiligo of the scalp, causing his hair to grow in two different colors. Who knows, it may not even be that, sometimes peoples' hair just does grow in two different colors. I went to school with a kid who had brown hair with a blonde patch in the front, and recently at my new school, had a class with a girl who had hair like Doc Hammer's (although not dyed black.) Age?[edit]

I'm certain his date of birth is incorrect. I lived in the same college dormitiry with him and Ben Edlund when I was 18. As a note, Lisa Hammer was born in 1967. That might be an indicator that he was born before 1976. Faulty evidence, but evidence none the less. Plus, they were married in 1989. The birthdate database (http://www.birthdatabase.com) lists Eric A Hammer's birthdate as 02-02-67. Intelius.com's public records also list an Eric A Hammer (member of the same household and relative of Lisa Hammer) with the same 02-02-67 birthdate and a current age of 42. Ben Edlund was Doc's college roommate in 1987. I don't see anything on that site to give the impression that it's a "reliable, third-party, published source with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy". The site is in beta, is self-published, and declares that its main purpose is to be a sort of celebrity connect-the-dots. I'm really not comfortable with a site that, at best, is thought to be "pretty accurate most of the time". As this is a BLP, and it has already been demonstrated that there are conflicting sources giving different dates of birth for Hammer, I'm going to have to insist on a higher-caliber source before we go giving potentially false information about a living person. --IllaZilla (talk) 19:02, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

I recently created an article about Hammer's current band, Weep. In doing so I ran some searches for freely-licensed images of Hammer that could be used here on Wikipedia, and created a category at Wikimedia Commons to house them: commons:Category:Doc Hammer. I've added an external Commons link at the bottom of this article.

There's been a bit of a brouhaha over at the Weep article over the image of Hammer that I chose to use. You can read that article's talk page for the details, but in a nutshell Hammer complained on Facebook about the photo used to represent him. One of his complaints was that it's not a very flattering photo...unfortunately that's a consequence of us only being able to use freely-licensed images; we have to take whatever people are willing to license for free use, and that usually means less-than-headshot-quality images. The reason I bring this up here is that the photo in this article's infobox is from the same set as the one in the Weep article, and it's not a particularly great photo of him either: He's mid-sentence, with his eyes squinted, so the look on his face is a bit odd, and his face is partly obscured by the microphone. File:Dochammer2010.jpg was recently uploaded to Commons, and might be a better one to use: his expression is neutral (at least he's not mid-sentence), the mic isn't blocking any part of his face, and you can even see some of his tattoos. It's not as high-res as the one currently in the infobox, but I figured I'd put it up for consideration to see if anyone feels like it's a better shot that could be used for the infobox.

As a related note, in sourcing the Weep article I turned up a rather lengthy interview with Hammer where he discusses his fashion, painting, and band. Here it is:

This would be a good source to use in expanding this article. If a referenced section about his painting were written, it might be appropriate to illustrate that section with a fair-use image of one of his paintings. As another thought, if some referenced content about his voice work on The Venture Bros. were written (ie. not just which characters he voices, but how he comes up with voices for the characters and how he produces the voices), it might be appropriate to illustrate that using 1 or 2 fair-use audio samples.
