Notability[edit]

BoyTheKingCanDance, WP:GEOLAND tells us that "Populated, legally recognized places are typically presumed to be notable, even if their population is very low". I infer that this place is notable. Hi my friend Hoary, I hope you're fine. I think I made my decision to add the template based on the word townlet, which sounds like a whistlestop and did not suggest to me a legally recognized place. BoyTheKingCanDance, to me "townlet" means no more or less than "little town"; but the population (even as presumably measured before the "separatists" or Russians had embarked on a full-scale war, and thus before recent depopulation) seems too low for any kind of "town". However, it's possible that Ukraine has a hierarchy that includes what are conventionally englished as "villages", "towns", and (between those two) "townlets". Perhaps Danielg532 will comment. ¶ Category:Villages in Sievierodonetsk Raion is a subcategory of Category:Villages in Luhansk Oblast, categorizing as the former makes categorizing under the latter superfluous; as both Category:Villages in Luhansk Oblast and (indirectly) Category:Villages in Sievierodonetsk Raion are subcategories of Category:Villages in Ukraine, categorizing as either the first or the second makes categorizing under the third superfluous. Pinging others in conversation, Danielg532, Hoary, and BoyTheKingCanDance. The issue with this article, and several others by this same editor, is that there is nothing to say that this is a "Populated, legally recognized place". Normally, census data would suffice for this. In this article, there are 5 references, the first is simple mention, 2 of the others, CBC and The Guardian, do not mention the locale, the Critical Threats ref is a dead link, and the final one is a non-reliable source.Onel5969 ^{TT me} 12:48, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

These are the ones which look simple, but when you delve into them, they are not so easy. I can't speak for every NPPer, but most of us, our inclination is to mark them "reviewed" and move on. But if they can't be verified, they shouldn't remain, imho. A couple of months ago, there were over a thousand 1-2 line stubs made about supposedly populated places in Uzbekistan. For the most part, they all used the same one or two sources, neither of which were valid. It was a bear going through all of them (for which I was roundly chastised by several admins for doing initially). Regardless, thank you for the response.
