Pronunciation[edit]

Does anyone know how to correctly pronounce her name? I feel rather foolish, as after seeing her perform live recently I've instantly become a fan, but I still don't know how her name is pronounced(!) Absolutely fantastic concert, too. She didn't say anything (aside from singing) the entire show (part of the mystique perhaps?) I was hoping she'd at least say her name :) Apologies in advance for improper talk page protocol. I'm a non-wikipedian.

There existed an audio interview with her, encoded into several MP3s and offered on the official site, where the interviewer introduces her as - excuse my Americanist phonetic transcription - DEE-uh-mahn-duh gah-LAHSS. She doesn't correct him. (Really nice interview too, if you can still find it.)
I too was in the dark about the pronunciation of her name until hearing the interview.

Eyesight?[edit]

Removal[edit]

I removed

Galás herself suffers from hepatitis C. "I have Hepatitis C, so the parallels are quite close with HIV, if somewhat different," she related in a 2006 interview with Michael Evans.[1] "It's so huge now. So many people have hepatitis now. You see magazines now describe it as the AIDS of the new millennia. How stupid."

which is a misquote on several counts; i'll state other objections to its restoration later.

The additions that I was able to access seemed relevant to the topic.I would like to let you know that your addition of the tattoo is great because it demonstrates her resilience in fighting for rights. On the other hand, your comment about her brother passing away is slightly irrelevant and distracting, but if you believe that this particular addition is important then please explain.

Hello the article seems to be neutral and everything is relevant to the Galas, but it is rather important to review the citations because several sentences in the article are missing citations. However, in general the links of the sources work fine and are reliable because several of them are from reputable news sources like the New York Times or San Diego Union Tribune.Therefore the majority of the claims are free of bias and are supported by neutral sources. Also, it appears as though there is a huge devotion to the musical performances that Galas participated in, but it was rather distracting to notice that her awards are underrepresented because only 1 of her awards is noted. Therefore it may be worth adding additional awards that she may have received. It is organized nicely because everything is placed in chronological order. I also made adjustments to the article because I added a citation to "Galás was awarded Italy's prestigious Demetrio Stratos International Career Award" and I added a link to the word "AIDS" because people without healthcare experience may not know what AIDS were. Addition[edit]

I added hyperlinks to the AIDS activism section. I added one to Masque of the Red Death, to Plague Mass as well as to AIDS. These topics should be linked to another page to further explain them in detail. I also added to the Background and Education section. Anti-gay groups?[edit]

Maybe I just didn't get this sentence, I'm not a native English speaker: There she lived with three black transvestites where their treatment from society impacted her to join anti-gay activism groups. Can someone please elaborate and preferably modify the sentence as it is misleading? Oakland/USC mention[edit]

"At 19, Galas moved to Oakland, CA where she studied biochemistry at the University of Southern California, specializing in immunology and hematology —studies.[9]"

Vocal range[edit]

Diamanda Galás’ vocal range is fairly documented and spans anywhere from three-and-a-half to five octaves depending on the source. Her recordings range from E2 to F7 according to... a wiki-controversial but otherwise reputable source. (TRP)  :) Considering the wide range of her songs (Skótoseme, You Don’t Know What Love Is, Cris d’Aveugle,Deliver Me from Mine Enemies, l’Heautontimoroumenos), her confounding, Callas-like vocal placement, her variably wide-cited range, and her comparison to other wide-range vocalists (she definitely has a wider range than Kate Bush and Hayley Williams), she should definitely be placed in [Category: Singers with a four-octave vocal range] or [Category: Singers with a five-octave vocal range].

You can clearly hear her vocal range on her albums. Not sure what more "reliable source" you'd want than an actual physical document of her voice.

Unpublished official biography[edit]

I removed (from the Further reading section): 

   *An official biography by John Payne was to be published in 2016.

This has still not been published, but also no reference existed about it and why it was delayed (or possibly abandoned). And an announcement I found in a magazine article states 2014 as its publication date (http://www.bluefat.com/Diva/Diamanda_Galas.html).

Would it be wise to re-insert it (possibly in a more appropriate section, like the Background and education section) and change 2016 to 2014 using the reference I found, or would it be better to wait and keep this information here until more information is found on this?
