Development vs. evolution of doctrine[edit]

This section should either be removed or a good deal more effort put into it to differentiate and clarify the distinction in a way that describes the history of the dispute without itself taking a position. The distinction makes good sense from an abstract point of view but (1) it isn't clear that especially Newman was exactly one rather than the other, in part because he wrote to explore the idea, not to address it definitively; (2) while the term "development of doctrine" originated with Newman, the concept of doctrinal development is much older (e.g., Bonaventure's Lectures on the Six Day of Creation has been read as including a theory of doctrinal development; (3) is used here with a little too much of an apologetical rather than scholarly tone.
