Studio album vs. compilation album[edit]

It was recommend by another user that I post a RfC about the status of Weezer's album, Death to False Metal. There have been dates about whether or not it is a studio album. The songs were compiled from more than twenty years ago; however, the versions of the songs are newly recorded by frontman Rivers Cuomo. Cuomo also states in multiple, reliable sources that the record is their ninth, and he considers it to be a studio album. I'm trying to prevent an WP:EDITWAR from happening on both articles (Weezer and Death to False Metal), and I thought it would be best to start a RfC for comment. Thank you! Can't it be considered both? Can't the article compromise by simply explaining in the lead exactly what the status of the songs are? -- œ 22:37, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reference[edit]

I don't know where the editor of this article got the information that the album name is a reference to Manowar, because this is simply not true. On many Weezer fan sites, including the Weezerpedia, the true origin of the album title comes from a saying that Rivers himself used to say about music and "false metal" with his little brother, Leaves Cuomo. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.58.212.110 (talk) 01:05, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- Manowar coined that phrase in the 80s. It's become a well known catch phrase in metal. Much like the Hurley titled album of the same year, it's pretty clear it's a cheeky random pop culture reference. It's fine if Weezer hasn't credited Manowar, but it's still true that it's a reference to Manowar. It'd be like saying "beautiful friendship" for example isn't a Casablanca reference. Maybe as kids they heard it referenced secondhand, but it's still a reference to the original source. Credit where it's due. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Psychogoatee (talkcontribs) 17:49, 1 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
