There was a reference in the article to Lynch directing a film called "Pleasure and Pain" about the life of singer, songwrite and guitarist, Ben Harper. This isn't true. The film is directed by "Danny Clinch" who makes documentaries about musicians and music, not David Lynch. I confiremd this on IMDB. If "Clinch" is a pseudonym for lynch, then it deserves to be in it's own section about films he has directed under other names.

Many reference to this EGS seems to be advertising. See what links here.

Dropped this from the end of the style sentence:

and remains one of the finest filmmakers in operation.

I agree that his style is instantly recognizable to any serious moviewatcher, but whether he is "one of the finest" is inherently POV.

Dont forget the music in Lynch`s movie its a important factor, anyway I recomend everyone to see Lost Highway.

Movies as "Incomphrensible"

This is a POV. --Daniel C. Boyer 18:28, 26 Sep 2004 (UTC)

By and large, I agree with it being PoV and disagree with the idea that it is incomprehensible. However, it reads rather well and I think that PoV is that of the vast majority of Lynch viewers. Fans such as myself have spent enough time figuring out what they may mean so have at least injected some sort of comprehension into it. How about replacing incomprehensible with abstruse or recondite instead? --MarkB 23:27, 27 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Darkend Room mis-spelled as "Darkened Room"

Yes, the correct name is "Darkend Room". (See IMDB and Lynch's site)

JFK's inauguration?

The article claims that Lynch was an usher at JFK's inauguration at age 7, but those numbers don't jibe. JFK became President in 1960, at which time Lynch would have been fourteen.

Žižek's Art of the Ridiculous Sublime?

I'm a bit surprised that this isn't referenced here, given that Lynch teachs with this book at EGS... Buffyg 22:57, 6 September 2005 (UTC)

Minor Correction

I've recently changed a statement about Roger Ebert's positive reaction to "Inland Empire"... you see the review that was cited [1] is actually written by Jim Emerson. This is stated in the article in the beginning. It's an easy mistake to make, I myself made the same mistake while telling some friends. Anyway, just check the source and you'll see. Thank you. 172.163.218.218 (talk) 10:27, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Badger?

Is David Lynch a Badger? Last time I checked he seemed human and if he isn't human he is most assuredly not very badger like. Or am I missing something and badger has some other meaning. ARavagedIsland (talk) 22:10, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Twitter

Is http://twitter.com/DAVID_LYNCH written by an imposter? If not, why would we delete it? WP:ELNO says not to link to a Twitter account if it's already linked from the main official site, but I don't see any link on http://www.davidlynch.com/.   Will Beback  talk  21:25, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

A social networking site hardly seems encyclopedic, but please be my guest. Readd if you like.(olive (talk) 21:34, 7 February 2010 (UTC))
Your edit summary said it wasn't official. Is that the problem or is it about the relative unimportance of Twitter in general or this feed in particular?   Will Beback  talk  22:02, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
"A social networking site hardly seems encyclopedic" is what I said and meant, and "official" was referring to the edit summary "estoring official twitter link per ELNO: "_Except for a link to an official page of the article's subject_, one should avoid:" Perhaps you missed it. At any rate please do what you will on this. I have no further input.(olive (talk) 22:21, 7 February 2010 (UTC))

David Lynch's official website "unsafe" according to Symantec Norton antivirus. Over 170 threats detected to users. Why?

What the hell's going on with Lynch? His website is like a noxious virus clinic. He has over 170 threats attached to his site? And this from an "artist" who wants to charge people to use his infected site. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.63.166.116 (talk) 17:28, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Independent Spirit Awards?

That's not a very important award. Do we really need to list it? Gingermint (talk) 00:56, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

David Wants to Fly

I revised the text to more accurately reflect the sources. In a way it seems like the current text (below)is more about this other film maker and his film, rather than about the article topic ie. David Lynch. What do others think?

  • David Wants to Fly, released in May 2010, is a documentary by German filmmaker David Sieveking "that follows the path of his professional idol, David Lynch, into the world of Transcendental Meditation (TM)."
  • [2] German Documentaries,AGDF March 2010.“The young filmmaker David Sieveking follows the path of his professional idol, David Lynch, into the world of Transcendental Meditation (TM).”Variety, David Wants to Fly Review, Alissa Simon Feb 14 2010 [3]""David Wants to Fly" follows German writer-helmer David Sieveking on his road to enlightenment, a journey that involves David Lynch, various headquarters of the Transcendental Meditation (TM) movement and the icy source of the Ganges."--KeithbobTalk 22:08, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
It's usually better to summarize multiple sources in our own words rather than quoting from one of them.   Will Beback  talk  22:13, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
That said, your proposal is not inaccurate and I have no objection.   Will Beback  talk  10:22, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

"Very dark" paintings

I have an issue with the recently added passage that begins "His works are typically very dark in colour", concerning the paintings. Regardless of what was said in the interview - which must have been an old interivew, a misread interview, or something else of that kind - I could show countless works by Lynch that are not, by any standards, dark in colour. Simple examples would include these:

And many more from all periods of his career: [4], [5], [6], etc. I guess the source supports the statement, but the statement is false. Although he did go through a black/dark painting phase in the late 1980s and early 1990s, much more than half of the The Air Is on Fire exhibition was in glorious colour. --Jashiin (talk) 22:16, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I was responsible for the addition of this information, which was based upon interviews that were initially published in 1997 I believe. Maybe it would be best to state that "In one interview, Lynch remarked that his paintings are dark in colour..." and then put differing information elsewhere? Error in Recurring Cast Section

Under Recurring Cast it states "The Elephant Man is not listed because it does not include any collaborated actors". This is not true. Freddie Jones worked with Lynch on "Dune", "Wild at Heart" and in the made for TV film "Hotel Room". William Morgan Sheppard who plays Mr Reindeer in "Wild at Heart" also appears in a small role "The Elephant Man" as the drunk "Man in Pub" who gets everyone to shut up before Michael Elphick's speech. Benjapin (talk) 08:57, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

You're quite correct. Jones' role in Dune was relatively prominent within the film, too. GRAPPLE X 11:11, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Links to itself?

What's the point of having a link to Crazy_Clown_Time in the David Lynch article when that link is redirected back to the David Lynch article? rowley (talk) 17:53, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

If and when the article is created in its own right, it saves going back and adding links to it again. GRAPPLE X 18:03, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Director of Micheal Jackson`s "Dangerous"

It says here ("Music Videos") that Lynch had directed the video of "Dangerous" by M. Jackson. I am not quite sure if that is even possible - as far as I know, "Dangerous" was not even released as a single and, therefore, a video of this song does not exist. But that is only as far as my sloppy 5-minute-research goes...

Anyway, this "fact" needs to be confirmed by some reliable source - or has to be deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.96.186.104 (talk) 18:02, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

Agreed and removed; he appears to have directed a teaser trailer/intro (as mentioned elsewhere in the article), but not an actual music video. Rostz (talk) 22:01, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

Influenced

The article is well written but I personally believe there needs to be a section discussing the influence Lynch and his films have had on films, music and popular culture in general. It has no doubt been large, and the influence of Twin Peaks itself can still be felt, even 22 years after it premiered. Not to mention the influence his films have had on younger directors. I remember reading Eraserhead influenced Stanley Kubrick while he was making The Shining. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.182.212.65 (talk) 05:05, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

Yes, Kubrick did screen Eraserhead to the cast of The Shining while filming it. If you can find sources for it, then it's more than welcome here. Lugnuts And the horse 13:38, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

Please see my reasoning on the article's talk page. Lachlan Foley (talk) 01:16, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Infobox photo

This photo is from 2009.
Keithbob favor's this 2001 photo

The image to the right is what I have replaced for use in the infobox for this article. File:David lynch grayscale.jpg is the image that I replaced, mainly because it is very, very dark and people with visibility issues may not be able to see the image properly. The colour image this came from also suffers from the same problem. Instead of playing around with these images and basically making them worse than they already are, we have a higher resolution, more recent image which we can use in the infobox (the one I inserted), so why would we choose an image which present problems for those with sight impairments. Russavia (talk) 12:47, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

The composition of your image simply isn't as nice. There's people in the background, and it looks like a quick snapshot overall. And while the BW picture is rather dark, your picture seems way too bright. Just look at his gleaming hair. Perhaps some cropping and photoshopping could fix that, though. --Conti| 13:17, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
Umm, the photographer is a professional photographer and the "hair" problem is probably the result of lighting above the subject. The composition isn't a problem for me, as this isn't "Featured photos" that we are discussing here, but the unsuitability for sight impaired people of a very dark image for use in an infobox. Russavia (talk) 14:03, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
I'm not at all convinced that the BW image is a serious problem in that regard, and as such I see no reason to replace it. --Conti| 14:10, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
I know someone who has vision issues, so I'll ask them to look at the article, and report back to me, if you really wish. But I know from previous issues they have had with seeing such dark images, I know it's going to be a problem. If they report back that they have problems seeing the image, but no problem seeing the image I changed it to, I'll make the change as is appropriate for them. Russavia (talk) 14:23, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
I very much welcome anyone with vision issues to comment here, yes. --Conti| 14:37, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
Regardless of vision issues, the current BW photo has half of his face in the dark which is not a good photo for a BLP info box IMO. The photo Russavia is suggesting is OK the smile is good and lighting is fine, but I think a head shot without people in the background is more appropriate for an infobox and I would recommend the head shot at right.--KeithbobTalk 15:00, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
Same photo but cropped
I've cropped the other photo. The people being in background is not an issue with this. Keithbob, not a good photo for an infobox, he doesn't look very happy, and it's quite a poor quality photo. And the person I asked came back to me and said that yes, they have problems seeing the image clearly -- as I knew they would, given that I with 20/20 vision have problems with it. Russavia (talk) 16:00, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
That's much better. Some further photoshop magic could probably eliminate the faces/background, but they're not nearly as distracting now. --Conti| 17:53, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

Yes, the cropped version is better, people in the background are less distracting now.--KeithbobTalk 21:49, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

Same photo, cropped and edited
If it's any help, I edited the cropped image to remove the people in the background. Idiotchalk (t@lk) 23:28, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
Awesome. Thank you. :) --Conti| 23:56, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
I've gone ahead and replaced the image with the version edited by Idiotchalk seeing as it seems to address most of the concerns. wctaiwan (talk) 07:01, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
