Removing section about him having a love afair and being trained in thai boxing by john cena. Sublime8510 (talk) 16:11, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a reliable source that shows whether he was or wasn't? I know it's impossible to prove a negative, and love affairs don't belong in an encyclopedic article, but training in MMA is a notable part of a given fighter's background, and if perchance Cena DID train him, it should be noted. --Alan the Roving Ambassador (talk) 16:22, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Love affairs dont belong in his "early career" section and John Cena is not a muay thai trainer, but a professional wrestler. This is probably vandalism. Sublime8510 (talk) 17:01, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. I took it back out. I don't know enough about John Cena to fill a thimble, but the "love affair" stuff was definitely counter to WP:BLP. --Alan the Roving Ambassador (talk) 17:10, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Date and place of birth[edit]

The date and place of birth have been changed, contrary to what is shown in a couple of the references, by User:Richyyric who states he is David Branch's brother. But no external source has been provided. It may well be that an error has been copied from one website to the next, but I think these details are best left blank until confirmation can be obtained from a reliable source: Noyster (talk), 15:07, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 7 August 2021[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: not moved. per discussion, moving David Branch to DAB, keeping David Branch (fighter) as is. (non-admin closure) Shibbolethink ( ) 15:35, 14 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

– Fighter is more well known then the executive. Average page views for the fighter is 159, for the executive only 9. RafaelHP (talk) 14:30, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • A search on Google for the name David Branch returns an equal number of results for both men. They seem equally important and at best David Branch should be a disambiguation page. Flibirigit (talk) 15:19, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose: "Fighter is more well known then [sic] the executive" is entirely a matter of recentist opinion, and ranking their importance by Wikipedia page views not a valid factor. The one has been a major hockey executive for over forty years, and the fighter one without a particularly outstanding record, who has never been world-ranked, who has never held a belt outside of a minor promotion. Certainly there should be a hatnote from the executive to the fighter, which there is. Ravenswing 18:42, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure if you know WP:MMA but WSOF was considered an elite organization before renaming to PFL. The fighter was a champion in 2 weight classes, and fought for the UFC multiple times, including main eventing a Fight Night event. RafaelHP (talk) 21:38, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It was not considered elite by the MMA Wikiproject, which holds that it was a second-tier outfit. Ravenswing 21:40, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The fighter was also formerly ranked by Fight Matrix and Sherdog inside the Top 10 middleweights in the world. And inside the Top 15 light heavyweights in the world. RafaelHP (talk) 21:45, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Source, if you would? Ravenswing 11:17, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose 1, support 2 David Branch has had a big impact on junior hockey in Canada, was awarded with the Order of Hockey in Canada, and overall has the higher long-term notability. David Branch the fighter, on the other hand, has a large edge in pageviews. Per WP:NOPRIMARY, David Branch should be a disambiguation page. 162 etc. (talk) 21:16, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I can agree with that. RafaelHP (talk) 21:54, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support 2nd, neutral on 1st. I agree that the ice hockey player isn't primary but per PT#2 there may not be a primary topic especially given the problems with PT swaps. Crouch, Swale (talk) 09:12, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per much of what Ravenswing says above. -DJSasso (talk) 19:56, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 10 February 2022[edit]

David Branch (fighter)David Branch – I know this request was made a year ago, but since then, the fighter has gotten more daily views (over 250) while the ice hockey administrator has 9. The fighter has consistently had higher number of views and has recently signed with a major promotion again. At this point in time, he is the primary topic. I believe putting a hatnote on the fighter's article that links to the ice hockey administrator reduces the number of clicks for readers to get to their intended article. Marty2Hotty (talk) 14:38, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. Recent page views is not an indication of long-term notability nor importance. Branch the ice hockey executive has been involved in the game for more than 40 years and is a member of the Order of Hockey in Canada. I see no indication of one person being more important than the other. Flibirigit (talk) 15:33, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment the fighter is a former world champion for former organizations as noted above. Marty2Hotty (talk) 18:12, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - the hockey player's more notable. Furthermore (as asked above), why was David Branch moved to David Branch (ice hockey) when the previous RM was against such a page move? GoodDay (talk) 18:37, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Three editors agreed a disam page should be created. ♡RAFAEL♡(talk) 07:14, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose and support moving David Branch (Ice hockey) to simply David Branch. The article should never have been moved in the first place. Masterhatch (talk) 21:29, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, keep status quo, no primary. 162 etc. (talk) 00:18, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose I disagree that either is a primary topic, my move request a year ago was a little silly looking back. ♡RAFAEL♡(talk) 07:11, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose this and any future attempt: C'mon. The previous request was barely six months ago. There's no record of the fighter competing in that time, he's had one victory in approaching five years, and he's already 40 years old. Not only has he not added to his luster in that time, at this point he never will: any future he has in MMA is as a jobber at best. Ravenswing 20:46, 14 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
