I'm the guy who wrote the EEVBlog forum post linked in the references. There's a lot of reference material on Datatrak in e.g. research papers written by the company's development staff, patents and ITU reports. The internals are very hush-hush (it was mostly used to track Securicor armoured vans and many of these still carry Datatrak signage!) but you could build a similar system from the research notes. Many of the transmitters are still standing.

Frankly I'm surprised it took this long for a Wiki page to appear. It's a really cool system. I'm tempted to expand the page with what I know about it.

Incidentally I'd be most interested in getting in contact with anyone who worked on the thing or who has recordings of the signals -- philpem@gmail.com. I'm trying to build a signal generator for it as the navigation network has now been decommissioned. I'd also like to see my box of MkII Locators do something other than receive Datatrak - receiving PSK31 or WOLF in the ham LF bands would be nifty. Philpem (talk) 17:51, 27 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
