Is Devito a Scientologist

I keep seeing mention of this on various discussion boards but have not seen it in writing. Is he a Scientologist or is he just personal friends with many Scientologists?

he isn't a member of the Co$, and i can't think of anyone that he's friends with who is.
His costar in Twins, Kelly Preston, and her husband, John Travolta http://www.scientology.cc/articles/603292245311.vm —Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.233.237.148 (talk) 07:10, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Also, why is there so much talk about his height in the opening segment? it seems kind of silly. surely he's more known as a good comedic actor rather than a short comedic gag. seriously, i just added something about the lack of any real information in the opening statement except for information about his height. come on, how could we possibly remember someone, who is extremely funny, just cause of height gags?

Schwarzenegger’s height

It mentions that he is over 6 foot.

Using the high-tech method of measuring their heights on the twins poster, I have determined Schwarzenegger is roughly 1.2 x DeVito's height. This means Schwarzenegger is 5'10 assuming DeVito is 4'10 as this article states. However, IMDB states Devito's height is 5', which makes 'over 6 foot' accurate. I don't think this constitutes a reliable source though. :s

Also, it says that devito is technically a dwarf, surely that should be midget, as a midget is a person below 5' in height, whereas a dwarf suffers from disproportion of head and limbs.

Midget is an anachronistic term some find offensive. However I personally think to be a dwarf you have to have a dwarfism condition and in addition to that De Vito is at the cut-off mark that can go either way. As far as I know he does not have a recognized form of dwarfism, he is simply short. The Little People of America, for all their good qualities, I kind of think wants more people to be seen as Little-People/Dwarfs than is reasonable. Although probably more significant is that people misread their guidelines and forget that the LPA does take in account family history or origin. (For example a male Twa who is 4'10 would not be deemed a dwarf by them unless he expressed a desire to be so deemed.)--T. Anthony 16:55, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Have removed the comment about technically being a dwarf, as it is incorrect. From dwarfism a medical or genetic condition that usually results in an adult height of 4'10" (147 cm) or shorter for men.... The criteria for being considered to be a dwarf is the condition and the height, not just the height on its own. One cannot technically be a dwarf, one either has a medical condition or hereditary gene considered to contribute to dwarfism or one doesn't. Khukri (talk . contribs) 16:14, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Really wierd vandalism

I am at a total loss to explain what's going on here. Megapixie 01:13, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

(moved from the article)

Re; Danny DeVito - Client of Dennis N Cline
Good name, in men and women, dear my Lord, is the immediate jewel of their souls.
Who steals from my purse steals trash. Tis something; Nothing.
'Twas mine, 'tis his, and makes slaves of thousands.
But he who filches from me my good name,
robs me of that which not enriches him
And makes me poor indeed.
Iago from Othello Act 3 Scene 3.
1.1 I inform you that the words of your client Danny DeVito have created a BBC conspiracy which has caused my children to lose a father for two consecutive years. 1.2 Your client is asked to issue a statement to the Police in Hertfordshire UK, namely WPC Taylor 253, and to the High Court, and to the BBC, to be read by His Honour Mr Justice Rose in 2006.
1.3 To recap, the allegations which Danny did or did not issue about myself and himself in 1998 have ruined the lives of myself and my children whereby the words complained of are being constantly repeated due to its connection with the BBC's soap, EastEnders.
1.4 Had Danny DeVito simply stated the allegations were false in 1998 I would not have had my children's lives ruined for the past two years. 1.5 I am of the view that your client can prevent my children's lives being further destroyed by stating the truth, which as I see it is thus; the Sunday People article was not only false, but caused me to contract a psychological injury that I cannot recover from until Danny DeVito puts the record straight.
1.6 You are required to talk to your client so as he can issue a statement to stop this ruination of the lives of my children caused by the Danny DeVito allegations in the UK press in 1998 and, so as my health is not further harmed by the consequences of these everlasting allegations regarding me and him.
1.7 I trust Danny DeVito will consider the power of his words when issued to the media and how they can effect children and their parents to such an extent as to make children emotionally and mentally scared for life.
1.8 My children are without a father because of what Danny DeVito said, or never said, and what he ought to have said, in 1998, regarding the defamatory news article which is now being peddled by staff at the BBC's EastEnders, and by others.
1.9 Danny DeVito needs to state his case regarding the allegations issued in the UK press regarding himself and myself, and that is to be done without further delay as unless he does so his further inaction will continue to have a very serious effect upon my children who have now lost a father over the words complained of and their effects upon my children.
This shit is wrong

Picture Vandalism?

Is the picture vandalism too, or is it just a case of a really bad image? I'm not sure whether to remove it or revert it... polkapunk

I'm not really clear on what's going on with the picture. The user concerned seems really insistent that the image is included. I would support removing it however. Does anyone have any idea what this vandalism is about ? Someone appears to have some kind of grudge. Megapixie 03:25, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
I suspect vandalism as well - but regardless, I agree the picture needs to go. Devito is virtually

unrecognizable in the shot. The size and darkness of the shot detracts from the visual presentation of the text of the article.

I'm going to remove the picture for now, barring any subsequent consensus that it should be kept. --Krich (talk) 18:29, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
It's not vandalism or a grudge, just happened to see a press scrum outside a restaurant in London so grabbed my picture phone to join in. Thought it may have been of interest to some, but obviously not. Sorry, i'll leave editing articles to the professionals in future.imdx80 10:23, 28 December 2005 (UTC)
Sorry, imdx80. There has been a lot of vandalism of this article, seemingly from someone with some sort of grudge (perceived or otherwise) against DeVito. Speaking for myself, I suspected that the image might have been part of that. It was supposition only, and I probably should have left that out of my earlier comment.
As much as your contributions are appreciated (and I hope you continue to contribute to Wikipedia), I personally just didn't feel it was a represenative image of DeVito, and for other reasons I stated above, felt it should go. Since others had already made the same opinion known, I removed it.
There are few "professionals" here. I hope you stick around with us amateurs. --Krich (talk) 10:58, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

King Kong

I think something should be added about Danny DeVito's role in Peter Jackson's remake of King Kong! He is suprisingly seen in the 2-disc DVD release of the film, in the post production diary "28 Weeks To Go- Peter Answers Your Questions" and appears near the end, observing a scene being processed for the film. --81.76.95.38 09:39, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

He had nothing to do with King Kong. VelvetKevorkian 00:36, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Shouldn't more be said about his role in One Flew over the cockoo's nest wasn't that his big break and best performance?

It's not true to say that he had "nothing to do with King Kong"! The fact that he was granted permission, and was practically enabled, to watch at least several scenes of the film, if not the whole movie, before the rest of the world is, at the very least, notable as it is a testament to his power within the movie industry, even in films he hasn't starred in! --84.68.38.160 02:40, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

The View appearance

This is going to need to appear in the article some way. This is making headline news now. (Netscott) 22:46, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

I don't think it should be an article at all, nor should it appear on his main article. It's one little stint that is going to blow over in a day. If we traced every mistake of every Hollywood celebrity the archives would be full of worthless, random junk.

Someone has managed to type in a lot of disparaging things about Danny DeVito in the intro section of his page here. It's unnecessary. I can't seem to delete it.

I agree, and I also think that the title "drunken appearance on the view" Is definitely not NPOV, since, as I understand, he says he wasn't drunk at the time.
I have commented the section out - it really needs to be very tightly sourced. Can someone provide sources for the statements in the section. Megapixie 04:31, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
So, if someone denies something that's true, it's NPOV to report what's true? Please link me to that policy. BonniePrinceCharlie 12:29, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
I have again commented out the section. The issue is purely with the lack of sources for the section. See WP:BLP policy. We need to have sources for this section before it can be reinstated. Megapixie 03:16, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Danny Devito isn't a good enough source? (note that this is a trivial issue that should not be in the entry, but your reasons are still awful) BonniePrinceCharlie 08:43, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Interesting bit from George Clooney jokingly discussing how both he and DeVito were drunk the night prior to this appearance: [1] --AWF —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.54.154.151 (talk) 03:33, 5 December 2006 (UTC).

If the info doesn't go in, someone should probably remove the tag from the top. It seems like it will just invite people to add stuff about the interview. Natalie 21:36, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

If people want to include the material, they are going to have to add sources to the material. I will continue to remove it until sources are linked in the article. This is policy per WP:BLP. Megapixie 06:57, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
Well, look, what he said during his own interview is like, not really in dispute. You need to stop being as unreasonable as the people who are trying to put this irrelevant stuff about a pathetic man in here. BonniePrinceCharlie 19:52, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
All I'm asking for is sources linked into the article. This is a clear part of our Biography policy. If someone wants to reinstate the material with suitable sources - great. Otherwise I will continue to remove the material. I can't see what is unreasonable about me removing unsourced negative material per policy, and explaining multiple times on the talk page (and edit summaries and user talk pages) why I am removing the material and what needs to be done to keep the material. Megapixie 22:56, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
You want someone to link to youtube, then? I thought that's against the rules, too. You seem to want to quash critical comments by a technicality (can't post a link to the video where he admits he was drunk, so, oh well, no source!). That's in bad faith. BonniePrinceCharlie 23:02, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
What I want to do is enforce WP:BLP. Finding good includable sources discussing the incident isn't hard. I'm not going to add the sources myself, since I think the material shouldn't be included in the first place because it's not encyclopedic. Megapixie 11:46, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

I do believe the incident should be mentioned in this article. If this was his obituary, or if this was in Encyclopedia Britannica, then it would not merit mention. But this is a living encyclopedia, and this incident is clearly relevant to those viewing the article TODAY; over time, the appropriateness of this mention will fade. The incident is relevant and significant for many reasons: * It was an appearance on national television in which he behaved oddly and stated that he was drunk and which prompted an apology, * The episode received national attention on news, entertainment, and comedy programs, * He stated that he had been out late with an A-list celebrity who subsequently confirmed that they had been out late drinking together, * The remarks about the Lincoln Bedroom under President Clinton, which was a newsworthy item in its own right, * The disparaging remarks about the current president, politics aside, and * The politically incorrect use of the word "retard." As I stated, the relevance of this in the long run will fade, but for now, it should be mentioned in the article. I agree that it needs to be tactfully and objectively written, and definitely needs to have a source (easy, because there are many credible news agencies who reported on the incident). One odd line about Nicholson

One line about DeVito's Batman role jumped out at me, that Jack Nicholson had gained worldwide fame from his role as The Joker, and so encouraged Danny to take on The Penguin.

Jack had 30 years in movies before The Joker, with 9 Oscar nominations and 2 wins after Easy Rider, Chinatown, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Shining, Reds, Terms of Endearment, Prizzi's Honor, etc. I suppose I'm nitpicking but it seems wrong. Any comments before I edit? --Bridgecross 15:02, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

You're not nitpicking - it's totally wrong. Jack was a HUGE star well before Batman. BonniePrinceCharlie 07:58, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Height

NO mention of his height?? none? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.154.155.166 (talk) 21:47, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

I found that strange too. I wanted to know why he was so short, if he was a dwarf or midget or something else. The article is curiously devoid of information in this regard. JettaMann (talk) 23:17, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Danny DeVito's height is listed as 5' flat on IMDB. In this article, he's listed as 4'9". Which is it? Without attribution for the lower figure, the article should be changed to the IMDB figure. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.163.171.225 (talk) 04:06, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Very strange that it mentions his height in the introduction. Since this is not standard practice for all actors / other entries in Wikipedia, I'm guessing someone feels that his height is a defining aspect of him. He's short, I get it -- but it is not a medical condition, as far as I know, and should not define him. At least not in the introduction. Also, sorry for not adhering to posting guidelines. I'm a guest. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 155.68.115.172 (talk) 23:06, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

But his height does very much define him. Many of his roles use his height such as part of the story (eg in Twins) or as a source of humor (eg Twins again, Friends, etc). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.210.64.214 (talk) 08:26, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

How tall is Devito? I came to this article to check his height but there is no mention of this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.89.9.221 (talk) 05:55, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

There are two reason's I came to look at this article: 1) to find out how tall he is, and 2) to read about his appearance on the View. Wikipedia's grade: FAIL. What's worse is that based on this discussion page, both have previously been included in the article but were removed by overzealous and admittedly biased (read above) administrators. Administrator' Grade: FAIL. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kingabraham3 (talkcontribs) 19:28, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Please show me where an administrator removed content regarding his height, and please show where removing any content for lack of sourcing and for speculation only is overzealous or biased. You apparently don't know the requirements for content retention and sourcing. For tabloid reporting, you might try The Star. Wildhartlivie (talk) 20:56, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

I, too, came to this article specifically to find his height, and think it's very bizarre that the most notable aspect of his image isn't even mentioned. Andre The Giant's entry talks about his height and weight. Dolly Parton's talks about her breast size. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.115.5.119 (talk) 17:40, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

I can't believe there is no mention of his height. Who decided that wasn't worth mentioning? Danny DeVitos short stature and rude demeanour are his signature trade-marks. And like mentioned before many of his roles are built around this undeniable feature of his. If you guys are worried it will hurt his feelings to mention that he is short, I think he knows already...--68.191.217.67 (talk) 09:41, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

DeVito doesn't live in Manalapan, New Jersey.

DeVito doesn't live in Manalapan. He lives in Beverly Hills, CA. I should know this. I live in Manalapan myself. Also, I got a magazine in the mail where it has an interview with Danny DeVito. In the interview, they talk about how Wikipedia says that he lives in Manalapan. DeVito responses with this quote, "Nah, I don't live in Manalapan. Although, I hear there are good sights there. I live in Beverly Hills with my wife Rhea Perlman." Please someone fix this error. I tried to change it myself, but changed it back two days later. Height and some cleaning up

I added his height in the personal section, its from his Bio on IMDB. I have also made some attempt to clean up the article and organize it better, as such I have divided his career as Actor, Producer, Director and other works followed by the personal section. I have also added a reference to his role currently in everything is sunny in Philadelphia under the actor section.--Theo10011 (talk) 22:05, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

IMDB sections such as biographies, trivia and mostly anything that is not specifically filmography and television work are not considered reliable sources. Those sections are user driven sections and not checked for accuracy in any way. Wildhartlivie (talk) 22:14, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
IMDB is used extensively as a source for many Film or Tv related wikis and Biographies, his height is one his most defining characteristics, to exclude even a mention of it from his bio would make this article incomplete. I have checked other sources for his height and they all agree with the IMDB stats. With the sections above asking his height to be mentioned I have made an attempt here of complying, If you feel that my source in unreliable than please provide a link to the contrary until then I suggest leaving it mentioned rather than excluding it completely. I have listed some other sources here from a quick google search, the list is not exhaustive and they all mention it as 5' from what I can see- [3] [4] [5] and another source used especially for celebrity heights [6].--Theo10011 (talk) 22:48, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
The problem is, all of those links you have listed fall under the definition of self-published sources. There is no indication where that height that supposedly confirms the IMDB height is possibly all obtained from the same place. IMDB maybe used on some wikis, but it fails the definition from WP:RS on Wikipedia. I could list dozens of links to debates about IMDB, but the bottom line is that bios, trivia, etc. posted on IMDB is not reliable. Anyone can add that content. Feel free to read through the links here. I'm not jerking your chain. If there were a reliable source to add the height, it would already be there. As it is, WP:BLP demands that a reliable source accompany the addition of his height, not just any link one can find through Google. Wildhartlivie (talk) 23:01, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
The last link you posted states clearly Heights were taken from IMDB.com. Blogs are not permitted as sources. Wildhartlivie (talk) 23:04, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply, I have no way of knowing the sources for the above articles. I have seen similar sources used on Wikipedia and have generally not been challenged. I have found Two additional links, one from Yahoo Movie page [7] about Mr. DeVito and another from Encyclopedia.com [8] both listing his Height at 5' but I have no idea if they live up to the standards for a reliable source. there is a bit of double standard here, similar sources are used- have been used for Biographies and all sorts of info, apparently they are good enough for filmographies but not bio's, Again I state that I have no way of knowing what the sources for any of these are but neither do you. I think that it should be left in until someone else raises an objection or provides evidence to the contrary. I have no way of finding 'reliable sources' without using google, with all due respect its a search engine sir, not some gossip or rumor website, its used for finding all kinds of information, facts about celebrities have numerous sources because they are mentioned or asked so often, incidentally Mr. DeVito's height is among the top two suggestions after his name on google meaning they are of some importance. Thank you--Theo10011 (talk) 23:34, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
There's an essay on Wikipedia called WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Just because something has been added in some of the 3 million + articles on Wikipedia doesn't make it valid. You will not find IMDB used as a source on any high profile good or featured designated article because it is not considered a reliable source. No, I do not know what the sources are for the list of links you offered, except for the usedwigs.com source which clearly states it is from IMDB. That is what is at the basis for the reliable sources policy. Third party, independently published sources, such as legitimate newspapers, magazines or books are the sources where such content should be sourced. There is no double standard regarding what small part of IMDB is usable. The website vets film cast and crew information. Everything else on IMDB is contributed by users who visit the site. It is not fact checked. One of links in the search page I posted to you includes the story that some passing reader at IMDB managed to get posted into the bio section that Julianne Moore was married to him for a period of time. It took quite a long period to get that removed from the site. In case you missed it, I have disputed the existence of DeVito's height in the article without a reliable source. It's not the first time someone has challenged this content that had no source. Yes, Google is a search engine, I do not need a primer course in what it is or what it contains. But it conveys no warranty against finding crap or gossip or rumor when it runs a search, it only comes up with what is found online. Then again, Google can find all sorts of information, some of it even only searches books and legitimate news. But there is no guarantee that anything it finds is valid or true. There really is no point in continuing to debate this. IMDB is only somewhat acceptable for starting out on a quest. It is not the final source and even everything found there should be vettable from somewhere else. Basically, just because his height is a point on a Google search still does not relieve us of validly and reliably sourcing the content. Please read WP:RS regarding reliable sources. If you do not believe me, please, feel free to post an inquiry to the reliable sources noticeboard or biography of living persons noticeboard and ask them if it is sufficient to use IMDB or any of the links you posted above to source DeVito's height. Again, I'm not jerking your chain or just tyoing to exercise my fingers. And by the way, I am not a "sir". Wildhartlivie (talk) 23:55, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for your response, I apologize for calling you a "sir" then again I had no reliable sources. I would like to thank you for defending your position so passionately, the thing is I do agree with the stringent requirements for credible sources for articles Its just that all the sources I came across listed it the same, I didn't find any other contrary stats for his height( I found a couple Later) that is why I kept rebuking the edit, I still contend that at least a mention of his short build needs to be mentioned in the article maybe without the height stat, your decision. Again I'd like to thank you for your time and call this little debate over.Theo10011 (talk) 00:18, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
I second this, even if you want to nitpick the actual number out of existence from the article, there needs to be some QUALITATIVE mention of his most prominent physical characteristic which everyone knows him for. You don't have to say hes a dwarf, you dont have to call him a midget, you don't have to give an exact height, or even (god forbid) a range of possible heights, but the complete absence of a simple qualitative statement about it is totally asinine. --68.191.217.67 (talk) 09:54, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Graduation year discrepancy

I'm a bit confused. The article says DeVito graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Hollywood in 1966. However, according to the Academy's web page (http://www.aada.org/about/history.html) the AADA did not open their California campus until 1974. Also. the California campus was located in Pasadena, not Hollywood, from 1974 until 2001 when it was moved to its current location in Hollywood. The New York campus, on the other hand, has been open since 1884. DeVito is listed on the Academy's alumni page (http://www.aada.org/alumni/alumni_list.html), which means he did attend, though no class year is given. It seems safe to say that either the date of graduation is wrong, or else he attended the New York campus and not California. Dunklemeister (talk) 01:51, 11 March 2010 (UTC)dunklemeister

My guess would be that it is New York, since he grew up and worked in New York in off-Broadway prior to going to California. Wildhartlivie (talk) 02:37, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

I deleted this sentence: "Brother of acclaimed genre theorist on Iconography, Terry Butcher." Terry Buther is in reality a former football player. Stripyslo 19:17, 15 June 2010 (CET)

Unsourced "The Jetsons (2012)" Role

He was credited as having been cast in the role of 'Mr. Spacely'. After some googling, it appears no casting announcement of any sort has been made, however there is a deluge of near-unanimous comments on fans who are strongly wishing for him to be cast. Salvidrim (talk) 00:39, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

Still married to Rhea Perlman

The introduction of the article has been changed to say "[his] then-wife Rhea Perlman"; however the recent announcement said that they are *separated.* Legally, they are still married; and therefore she is currently his wife. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.196.248.241 (talk) 01:55, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

They're not even separated anymore, haven't been for 8 months. Pongley (talk) 20:38, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
