Daniel Smith (footballer)Daniel Smith (goalkeeper) – there are multiple footballers named Daniel Smith, so this is ambiguous disambiguation, and should point to the disambiguation page. WP:PRECISE ambiguous disambiguation is a bad idea. I note that the article describes neither birth nor death dates, so that is why I picked "goalkeeper" as there are other English footballers by this name. --Relisted. • Support. There are other Daniel Smith 's in other codes of football, as well another in association football. Zarcadia (talk) 12:45, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support The proposed title is my first choice. Typically, footballers aren't disambiguated by position, though that's because football positions tend to be more fluid than in some other sports, especially American football, which often uses positions when (American football) isn't enough. Still, it's very rarely to see professional (i.e., notable) footballers switching to or from goalkeeping. So I think this will be most recognizable, though we'll need to keep an eye out for, say, ice hockey goalkeepers.I don't usually like disambiguating by birth year when there are other options available (WP:NCPDAB: "readers are more likely to be seeking this information than to already know it"), though in this case, Daniel Smith (footballer, born 1923) wouldn't be so bad. Since the other person involved is Daniel Smith (footballer, born 1982), the years would be somewhat useful in distinguishing them. --BDD (talk) 18:12, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • "in this case, Daniel Smith (footballer, born 1923) wouldn't be so bad" - he wasn't born in 1923, though. He played in 1923..... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 18:26, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oops! Definitely glanced at that too quickly. --BDD (talk) 18:48, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - standard disambiguation is by year of birth, however as that is unknown I would support moving to disambiguate by playing position. GiantSnowman 18:44, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, it makes sense to use goalkeeper as a disambiguation tool in association football biographies because it is a distinct position for those who play there, in a way that outfield positions often aren't. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 08:24, 9 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
