I just came across Danny Monzon's name by chance. I remember him well at the age of about 14 or 15. We played on the same basketball team in The Bronx, mostly in the evenings, at P.S. 6. At that age, he couldn't have been more then 5'6", or 5'7". Even then, and at that height, he could dunk a basketball. It was absolutely incredible. It always looked like he had springs in his legs, and it was almost as if he gave himself an extra kick with his feet, while in the air, to give him more lift. As a matter of fact, because of Danny, we won a trophy in basketball one year. The only trophy I ever won in my life.

I remember him being one of the nicest guys I ever met. Very kind. He always wanted to play professional sports. He mostly talked about baseball because he was too short for basketball. Somehow you knew he would one day make the pros. My family moved from Longfellow Ave. in the Bronx to the Pelham Parkway area. The old neighborhood began to go downhill with all the gangs coming in. If it weren't for the love of sports, Danny would not have made it out of there. I lost touch with him when I moved, but knew someday I would hear or read good things about him. I'm now 63 and very saddened by his passing at such a young age. I'm also very proud to have known him. American Patriot47 (talk) 01:47, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
