Move request[edit]

{{movereq|Crestwood, Yonkers}} Crestwood, New YorkCrestwood, Yonkers — Crestwood is specifically part of Yonkers, New York. ----DanTD (talk) 14:41, 8 March 2010 (UTC) Relisted. DMacks (talk) 09:18, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. Are there other "Crestwood" places in New York? WP:PLACE recommends "Place, State" in general. DMacks (talk) 09:18, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that's right. WP:PLACE says that "the canonical form for cities in the United States is City, State" -- but that does not apply to this situation, because Crestwood is not a city, it's a neighborhood. Some quick research (admittedly neither scientific nor thorough) suggests to me that a common form for the titles of neighborhood articles on Wikipedia is Neighborhood, City, State, like "Little Tokyo, Los Angeles, California." Following that example, it seems to me that the title of this article should be Crestwood, Yonkers, New York. HMishkoff (talk) 01:31, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's the usual format for neighborhood articles. Move to Crestwood, Yonkers, New York. Powers T 12:56, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
moved per the suggestion above. However as there was little participation in this discussion I would not object to someone reverting this move and continuing to discuss. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:07, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The move was made, and it seems fairly acceptable to me. But does this mean we're going to have to start adding the state to every neighborhood in all the five boroughs of New York City? Will Whitestone, Queens be forced into renaming as Whitestone, Queens, New York or Whitestone, Queens, New York City? This is the reason I wanted to name it strictly Crestwood, Yonkers. ----DanTD (talk) 18:03, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The nomenclature for sub-city neighborhoods is a perennial topic of discussion at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (geographic names), most recently appearing in Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (geographic names)/Archives/2009/November. A complicating factor in this is that many neighborhoods of NYC (presumably including Whitestone) used to be independent cities. --Orlady (talk) 21:37, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
