Trading post[edit]

Coquitlam never had an HBC fort or trading post! There were 4 HBC sites in the Lower Mainland: Derby Reach and Fort Langley (both in Langley), Hope, and Yale. I removed the relevant sentence. --Sewing 20:24, 18 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Pre-European history[edit]

Any good reasources on the Coquitlam area before Europeans moved in? I believe I have some material on it around home and will look it as soon as I can find it. -- Unknown 20:24, 18 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Not the right kind of information[edit]

"Vancouver International Airport, located on Sea Island in the City of Richmond to the west, provides most of the air access to the region. The airport (YVR) is the second busiest in Canada and one of the busiest international airports on the West Coast of North America. BC Ferries provides car and passenger ferry service from two terminals in Tsawwassen and Horseshoe Bay to Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, and other destinations along the Inside Passage."

I don't think this is nessesary, if any airport is going to be mentioned, and i don't think any should as there are no airports within coquitlam, it should be pitt meadows. Same thing with the ferries, we don't have any!

Things that could be added is information about:

  • The port mann bridge and the proposed twinning of itas well as it's impact on the reigon
  • The poor bus service relevant to similar communities in Greater Vancouver
  • How the millenium line has affected southern Coquitlam
  • Marijuna grow ops being a problem in the reigon; Especially on Westwood Plateau
  • Crime around the porier area
  • Relations with other cities, (ex: the braid street bailey bridge connecting coquitlam to new westminister fiasco)
  • Proposed residential development in the fraiser mills area
  • Austin rebeutification efforts
  • Riverview and it's history; as well as the trees there
  • Colony farm
  • Wildlife (eg: bears in most of coquitlam, cougars)
  • Burke Mountain
  • Salmon

What a list! Though this gives you an idea of what coquitlam is and issues surrounding it. We're certainly more than a city with some history and an actor teaching at the local high school! I'm sure many of you could take a few of those and turn it into a work of art we could all improve on. 207.81.213.37 08:11, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The airport and ferry information is useful, as it explains methods for reaching the city/region. As for your other suggestions, a few of them are fairly subjective (i.e. poor bus service, problem of grow ops, affect of the millenium line). --Dogbreathcanada 17:32, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not going to lie, a few of those are probably better on the agenda at a city hall meeting, but many of those are fair game here on wiki. 207.81.213.37 23:28, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Northeast Coquitlam[edit]

Is it worth mentioning that from the founding of the city up until the end of August 2006 you could not drive from north Coquitlam to south Coquitlam without leaving Coquitlam, in fact I still think there are parts of northern Coquitlam that cannot be reached from Coquitlam.

I can't speak for others, but personally, I don't think so. I live in one of those areas (north of River Springs), and although the David Avenue Connector is a great convenience to the Town Centre area, it's not like we were up in the hinterland with only dogsleds to get us out. So we technically had to go through PoCo to get to the rest of Coquitlam. It's just artificial lines on a map. Greg Salter 17:39, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Westwood Plateau multicultural[edit]

Westwood plateau is no more or less multicultural than any other part of the city. For instance, [this article] states "From the beginning Coquitlam was a multicultural community, home to Europeans, East Indians, Chinese and Japanese." Unless there is a citation the shows that the westwood plateau area is more multicultural than other places, this should be changed. -- Unknown 20:24, 18 Dec 2007 (UTC)

Proposal to rename page[edit]

The result of the proposal was move.

Proposed rename: Coquitlam, British ColumbiaCoquitlam

Coquitlam currently redirects to Coquitlam, British Columbia. There is no Coquitlam (disambiguation) page; other uses of Coquitlam in page names are either secondary to the community or used in composite names. As the place name is evidently unique and primary, it is proposed to simplify the page name per WP:CANSTYLE and WP:PRIMARYUSAGE. Dl2000 (talk) 02:25, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support per nom. - DigitalC (talk) 07:23, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support; an internet search suggests that, despite restricting a query to non-BC occurrences of "Coquitlam", and removing occurrences of "Port Coquitlam", results are still strongly associated with this city. Mindmatrix 14:30, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Photos[edit]

The photos are all currently of the northeastern part of Coquitlam (behind Coquitlam centre) if anyone has them it would be nice to show the rest of town (ie Maillardville, Mundy Park, Como Lake, etc. - the older parts of town). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.189.135.87 (talk) 06:32, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you ignore the section on the Town Centre, there's only a few photos in the entire article. That's essentially because there's only so many things that are photo-worthy. Mundy Park is a nice park, but photo-wise, it's just a bunch of trees that look like any other park. Como Lake MIGHT work, though, taken across the lake at the right time of day. But I'll certainly add something from Maillardville when the weather turns nicer. I would cringe, however, if anyone added generic photos of stores on Austin or strip malls on Lougheed.
