Line between Betws and Blaenau Ffestiniog[edit]

According to the Cornishman newspaper the extension was opened to passenger traffic on Tuesday, 29 July 1879. The cost being upwards of £500,000 with half that amount being spent on a tunnel. (31 July 1879 p7) Jowaninpensans (talk) 23:31, 21 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

An article in The North Wales Express, dated 1st April 1881, seems to clarify the situation -

BLAENAU FESTINIOG. RAILWAY EXTENSION. The new station works of the London and North-western Railway Company at Blaenau Festiniog are now complete, and were opened for traffic vesterday (Thursday). Since the opening of the line in July, 1879, the terminal station has been immediately outside the south end of the tunnel. The line has now been extended a distance of about three quarters of a mile, and threads its way under the high level bridge and through a network of slate-quarry tramways, sidings, and rubbish banks, to a point in the very centre of the town, almost immediately opposite the terminus of the narrow-gauge railway connecting Festiniog with Portmadoc ....
