Death date[edit]

I have researched his life quite intensively and am quite certain about his death date. Although I'm intending to rewrite and expand the article at a later time, the mistake was flagrant and I had to correct it. Placing it in february 1952 is an early 1990s mistake; when his memoirs where being edited quite hastily and Humanitas & Albatros editors had to come up with short introductory biographies.

I argue that the 6th February 1955 is the correct one for more reasons:

  • Constantin Giurescu, reputed historian and prisoner at Sighet, claims that C. Argetoianu was still alive in late January 1955 and that Argetoianu's cell (the infamous nr. 12, cold & wet) was being cleaned by fellow inmates on the 6th of February 1955.
  • The death certificate (well, actually Fișa matricolă penală, available on the IICCMER website) lists the 6th of February 1955
  • S. Neagoe, historian and editor of the memoirs & journals of Argetoianu (thus foremost expert), accepts 1955.
  • C. Argetoianu's daughter, Marie Jeanne, married exactly one year later, on the 6the February 1956. It's very probable that she had been informed of her father's death and respected the custom on not marrying one year after the death of a close relative.

The cause of death was most probably a skin cancer for which he didn't receive any treatment whatsoever. --Hype supper (talk) 22:46, 7 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
