Inscriptions[edit]

Resolved

@Legacypac: Can you double check this diff? Did you mean to add a second inscription? ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:07, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:16, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Title[edit]

What's the best title for this page? Most sources seem to say "Confederate Monument". @Legacypac: You might want to share your reason for the page move? ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:53, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The best sources indicated Confederate Mothers Monument. I've added those sources to the page. I searched lTexarkana Confederate Monumnet and got the Confederate Mothers Monument name consistently. Confederate monument is just a generic term. Waymarking was an outlier calling it a park, but that is a user generated name. I trust waymarking for photos and coords but not official names. If you can find better evidence I'm open to change. Legacypac (talk) 19:59, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ref #1: "Confederate Monument", "Confederate Memorial"
Ref #2: Not sure -- @Carptrash: Can you confirm the exact titles used by this source? ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:06, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ref #3: N/A
Ref #4: "Confederate Monument"
Ref #5: "Confederate Mothers Monument"
Ref #6: Doesn't really give the monument a name. Refers to the monument at "Confederate Memorial Park".
Ref #7: "Confederate Mothers Monument"
Hard to say which references are more reliable than others, but I guess "Confederate Mothers Monument" is appropriate. One could also argue that the city name is a better disambiguator, but I'll leave alone for now. I am curious about what the book source added by Carptrash says, if possible to share. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:06, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I've updated the article's lead to note these titles, removing "Texarkana Confederate Monument" in the process since none of these sources use this specific title. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:08, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

[1] calls it Texarkana Confederate Memorial citing the Texas Historical Commission. Legacypac (talk) 20:22, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Legacypac: This is very helpful. I've updated the article accordingly. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:24, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

[2] details about who was behind it and importing figures. Supports the Confederate Mothers name in title Legacypac (talk) 20:28, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't consider this a reliable source, but good to know. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:29, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No, but I believe the info is accurate having seen it elsewhere. It should be able to be reliably sourced. Legacypac (talk) 20:54, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm very confident the Confederate Mothers title is the most accurate. Over 100 years people have likely called it many things but the other names are pretty generic descriptions. The closeness to the courthouse (which should be linked) is important. Legacypac (talk) 21:03, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Little, in Outdoor Sculpture in Texas calls it the "Confederate Mothers Monument." Which is good enough for me. Carptrash (talk) 03:47, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
SIRIS, the Smithsonian data base calls it the "Confederate Monument." That is also what Widener in "Confederate Monuments" naes it. Still, I'm with Little on this one. Carptrash (talk) 03:49, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for confirming! ---Another Believer (Talk) 06:04, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
