Revisions and clarifications[edit]

I made some revisions and clarifications based on a couple of older sources (Hamilton and Schubert) that seem pretty reliable. ThaddeusFrye 23:43, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I know that original research is forbidden, but what else can one do when published sources are lacking? That is why I have described it as a stub. Peterkingiron 17:28, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have done slightly better on the last paragraph this time, but the reference to Rogerstone is still only based on a passing reference in a contemporary document. Peterkingiron 20:33, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Incorporation Date[edit]

According to the patents granting arms (Source Book of Public Arms, 1915) The Society of Mineral and Battery Works was incorporated May 28, 1568 and the Miners Royal or Mine Adventurers Company on May 22, 1568. Lozleader 09:42, 17 April 2006 (UTC).[reply]

I was trying to avoid going into excessive detail. Essentially you are right, but Donald says that both companies were incorporated on the same day. This is probably a better source than yours. Peterkingiron 22:35, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Case of Mines link?[edit]

1568 seems a significant date in mining in England. I have just written a stub on the 1568 Case of Mines also known as R v Earl of Northumberland - not sure how the case links with the establishment of the Company of Mineral and Battery Works and the Society of Mines Royal but I think the date can't be coincidence. Any thoughts?--Golden Wattle talk 20:56, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good point. What you have written is no mere stub. We certainly need an article on the Society of Mines Royal. Unfortunately, I do not have a copy of M.B. Donald, Elizabethan Copper, or I might write it myself. Care will be needed over other companies with similar names in the 1690s, one of which became the London Lead Company.
