4.88:1 gears on M1028a2/M1028a3[edit]

As much as I want to see 4.88's in these trucks I'm reading nothing that points to 4.88's in the duallys. Perhaps the best evidence that they were regular 4.56 gears is that these duallys were converted by the Marines? and started off life w/ 14b SRW, just like the rest. The conversion kits came with Dana 70 HD axles, but don't have anything to convert the front axle to 4.88's.--Dana60Cummins (talk) 18:38, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Broken front suspension[edit]

Did anyone notice the right front suspension on the Dodge has something very wrong? Look at how the wheel is leaning way in at the top. Bizzybody (talk) 07:46, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's the only picture we got.--Dana60Cummins (talk) 20:16, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I can try to hunt one down on Commons, but no promises.

Hi guys[edit]

Who wants to create a Dodge_m880 page? I've recently become quite interested in these old military hunks. And, I can get you a different picture if you want.Coding for Christ (talk) 16:02, 17 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think a m880 page is needed. It's covered well here already. Unless you or someone else has tons of info that it starts dwarfing the GM CUCV section. I'd just keep it where it is. And yes I agree with you that M880 are some really nice underrated trucks.--Dana60Cummins (talk) 16:12, 17 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"M880 CUCV"?[edit]

NO ONE ever called the M880 family "CUCVs."

The CUCV term was created in the '80s when the GM trucks were purchased.

Everyone called the Dodge pickups "880s." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.127.184.204 (talk) 07:54, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit it then. --Dana60Cummins (talk) 16:52, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I was stationed at Fort Lewis from 1978-1980 and regularly checked out an 880 from the motor pool that was referred to as a CUTV, although I suppose now I just misunderstood the enunciation since there doesn't appear to be such a thing as a CUTV. But I got out in June of 1980 and the term was in use prior to that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.67.42.206 (talk) 04:16, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I was stationed at Fort Bragg in from 1980 until 1986 and we went thru the transition from Jeeps and Dodges to Blazers and GM pickups, as they were replaced as they were delivered, which was a few at a time after the first batch, we had all four until around 1985 when the last 151s were removed and cut in half. When I left for Korea there were still 880's serving along side the GM's and both were referred to as CUCV's, i.e. Dodge CUCV and Chevy CUCV. When I arrived in Korea we still had Gamma Goats and 880's serving alongside the newer GMs. When I left in 88 it was still the same although the Gamma Goats had been "parked" for some time by then. Again both pickups were referred to as CUCV's. When I arrived at Ft Hood the only 151s and Dodges still in use were by Air Force ALO teams and Range Control. When I went to the Gulf War some units still had 880's, which mostly came from Pomcus stocks in the UK and Germany. Those were all given to the SANG when those units left.100.34.84.108 (talk) 13:56, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Recent Edits[edit]

I've done some significant editing of this page lately. When I found myself here after doing some research on the Bradley Fighting Vehicle I was horrified. I think it's pretty well cleaned up now, with a better information, better layout, infoboxes, and plenty of images (except the CUCV II. Still need a few for it. Anybody have any?). The references are still lacking, but there really isn't much info around about these trucks. I also wish I could find a list of operators for each incarnation, but that probably won't happen. I went back and added many inline citations and references. Still need CUCV II photos. --Stratocaster27t@lk 16:40, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Someone needs to correct the torque rating of the Chevy 6.2 diesel engine. No way is 240 foot pounds correct for a diesel of this size. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Michou 13 (talkcontribs) 23:22, 25 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yer Armored Combat CUCV...[edit]

This article suffers, like the HMMWV piece, from a common thread of presentism, in that it's assumed that light tactical trucks go around with unlight tactical armor, and that this somehow differentiates the 1009 and the 880 series from the HMMV. Back when I was a serving' o' the Raygun, every light truck, including the HMMWV, was generally unarmored. The article should reflect that reality. Thoughts? An armored version of the Dodge 880 existed called the Peacekeeper, it was built by Cadillac-Gage. PaPiker (talk) 02:11, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
