Career[edit]

I object to a sentence like "...star players like Jaco Pastorius." Although I'm a great fan of Pastorius', the varying styles of bass players, indeed of most all musicians, aren't conducive to such offhand comparison.

Pastorius was a "star player" in the sense that he was a soloist, bandleader and an integral part of the Weather Report. Rainey is primarily a session bassist. This is like saying the principal Second Violin in an orchestra is "not as good" as the principal First Violin. They have completely different roles. B.
