Page Name[edit]

I moved the page here from "THE Choral Arts Society of Washington" (and set up a redirect) to match the style of pages on other groups having similar names, e.g. Choral Arts Society of Philadelphia, Choral Arts Ensemble of Portland, Baltimore Choral Arts Society. However, I've since been advised informally that the officially trademarked name is "The Choral Arts Society of Washington" (but don't have a cite on point either way - yet). Is there a Wikipedia policy to govern this situation? Dss16 (talk) 16:04, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not a WikiMaven, but I would think it's the same as real world encyclopedias, all of which leave out the opening "The". Also, Ohio_State_University doesn't have the "The" in front of it, and they are really snooty about making sure everyone knows it's THE Ohio State University. So I say leave it alone, but reference it in the article, as you have. Ztrawhcs (talk) 02:11, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

So there is a Wikipedia policy (Wikipedia:Naming conventions (articles)) that governs this situation, and it generally seems to favor including "The." Moreover, I've confirmed that the registered corporate name includes "The." Moving it would create an inconsistency with similarly-named groups, although those pages are less-developed than this one. So I'm inclined to move it to add "The," but will wait for further discussion. Dss16 (talk) 18:13, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
