Total Number of SA Chinese[edit]

I would like to update the total number of Chinese people in South Africa to 350,000 and drop the other two, lower, estimates. I want to do this because I feel that Dr Park's more recent estimate (2009) is both more up to date and more reliable given that it is an academic article published in a peer reviewed academic journal. Additionally it is also a conservative estimate as there are estimates that put the number of Chinese in South Africa to be as high as 450,000.--Discott (talk) 21:23, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dubious assertion[edit]

Under the section Black Economic Empowerment a claim is made that Chinese South Africans, like many other South Africans, are exempt from benefiting from affirmative action policies "unlike Blacks who have moved to the country after apartheid." This is a dubious statement, I have found no evidence to support this and the statement was made without a reference. If you disagree with this and there is evidence to support this then please let me know. Other wise I will remove that statement in a couple months time. --Discott (talk) 09:47, 25 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Chain store conspiracy[edit]

I am not convinced that there is a place for this section in its current form on this article page. It cites some pretty suspect sources to voice what can best be described as a xenophobic conspiracy theory and makes no mention about it's validity (or likely lack of validity). I am going to propose that it be removed unless some more reliable and neutral sources can be found.--Discott (talk) 14:58, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed that it's WP:FRINGE at best. I also find a lengthy discussion of triad activities appended to the section above unencyclopaedic, and smacking of WP:EDITORIALIZING. Prefacing it with, "Although the Chinese South African community is a law-abiding community that has maintained a low profile in modern South Africa..." is patronising at the least. I'm not adverse to a mention, but I'd consider the bulk of it WP:UNDUE. --Iryna Harpy (talk) 20:54, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I agree Iryna Harpy, as such I am removing the whole section from the article.--Discott (talk) 08:33, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed per WP:UNDUE. --Iryna Harpy (talk) 22:42, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Added "Disputes within the Chinese Community" and a paragraph at the end of "Black Economic Empowerment ruling"[edit]

For my three substantial edits, I added a paragraph to the end of Black Economic Empowerment ruling to describe shift in sentiment towards the Chinese Community after the Chinese Association of South Africa's case against the new South African government. I also added two paragraphs under Disputes within the Chinese Community that briefly goes over the tensions between different Chinese sub-cultures.
