Ancestry
Honkala is a Finnish surname. Does anyone have information on her (apparent) Finnish-American ancestry? --89.27.36.41 (talk) 22:07, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

- I found an article -- [3] -- implying that her father was Native American. Though it doesn't explicitly state that he was of full Native-American descent, another article, [4], states that she is half Native American. While it's not at all uncommon for otherwise 'European-Americans' to possess a low-to-moderate degree of Native American ancestry, the fact that a vice presidential candidate is of half Native American descent is significant and worthy of mention, in my view, as the list of US politicians having a high degree of Native American ancestry is relatively short [5] [6]. Perhaps we could mention her Native American (or, more specifically, Cheyenne, as the above commenter mentioned) ancestry near the mention of her Finnish ancestry ? - It may be from her mother's side that she gets her Native American ancestry, then, since that article is more up to date. In any case, her half Native American ancestry isn't mentioned at all in the current Wikipedia entry, and I think it might be worthy for us to include that information. We could just modify the existing sentence mentioning her Finnish ancestry to state that she is of Finnish and Cheyenne ancestry and add your reference, but I'd like to get your and anyone else's opinion before making the modification.TraePalmer (talk) 12:35, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

Election in the 197
The description of Honkala's 2017 race in the 197th district of Philadelphia is improperly concentrated in the lede section. The events of that campaign and its results (which are ongoing) should only be summarized in the lede, and a new section (perhaps "2017 Pennsylvania House District 197 campaign") should be added after the section "2016 Democratic National Convention," with additional updated details.
