Loss of territory[edit]

I replaced a reference to the loss of "several thousand square miles" with "one thousand square miles." Although Maryland became considerably smaller due to land disputes with the Penns (over Pennsylvania and Delaware), much of this land was due to arguments over the northern border, and the earlier loss of all of what is now Delaware. The actual mistake that Charles Calvert made was in regard to the southern border of Delaware, and the location of the true "Cape Henlopen" as there were two capes of similar names. See Transpeninsular Line. By the way, Maryland also lost considerable territory in the west due to disputes of whether the Northern or Southern Branch of the Potomac is the source of the Potomac.

Benedict Swingate Calvert (c.1724-88)[edit]

Recently someone added quite a bit of facts about Charles' son, Benedict Swingate Calvert, to this article. Although it is interesting, it really is not relevant there. If someone thinks that he is worthy of his own Wikipedia article, please add it here: Benedict Swingate Calvert. Charles was also survived by an illegitimate son, Benedict Swingate Calvert who was married to a daugther of Captain Charles Calvert who had goverened Maryland 1720. [1]. {Captain Calvert was a son of Charles Calvert, 3rd Baron Baltimore.

A daugther of Benedict Swingate Calvert named Eleanor Calvert was married to John Parke Custis, stepson of George Washington}. Two of the Children of John Parke Custis & Eleanor Calvert were George Washington Parke Custis and Eleanor Parke Custis who married Lawrence Lewis a son of Betty (Washington) Lewis-sister of George Washington.
A son of Benedict Swingate Calvert was CHarles Calvert whose daugther Rosalie Eugenia Calvert married Charles Henry Carter of Shirley Plantation. Charles Henry Carter was a double relation of Robert Edward Lee: 1) By being a son of Lucy Grymes (Lee) Carter who was a daugther of "Light Horse" Henry Lee and his first wife. 2) By being a nephew of Anne Hill Carter the second wife of "Light Horse" Henry Lee.

I came to this discussion page to ask why we have so much genealogy information for a descendant on Charles Calvert's page, only to see that it was removed once already. I think it should be removed. Paddling bear (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 16:05, 3 January 2009 (UTC).[reply]
