The catbus is definitely male[edit]

The Catbus's genitalia is easily visible in the movie. I would think this obviously makes him the FATHER of the kittenbus. The article states "However it is most certain a female due to the fact it gave birth to the Kittenbus." Where is this birth documented? I believe the article should be edited to remove this sentence. Ciper (talk) 03:14, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Plot Accuracy[edit]

I made two changes to the article. First, it said that Totoro asked Catbus to bring the girls to their mother. Actually, he asked it to help Satsuki find her sister Mei, after which the Catbus takes pity on the sad girls and helps them get to the hospital.

Secondly, the article says that the Catbus fades away leaving only the eys and smile, ala the Cheshire Cat. This doesn't happen. As can be see here: http://www.lyris-lite.net/totoro_movie_ending-new.html the entire cat fades away. The eyes and smile are brighter so fade more slowly but the Catbus goes out of frame while his body is still visible. It's been said that older transfers of the film were much darker, so perhaps this is the cause of such misunderstanding.

Additionally I'm not sure that the Roleplaying Opportunities section of this discussion page belongs here - it looks like it ought to be on a forum somewhere, not in Wikipedia.

You're being generous. I have the Fox VHS at home, and the Catbus can easily be seen to be fading away exactly as you describe. I think it was just someone straining to make an inappropriate but satisfying comparison. TCC (talk) (contribs) 22:26, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Species[edit]

Is Catbus specifically a nekomata or a bakeneko? Both articles suggest it to be one. --OGoncho 03:47, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's specifically a bus-shaped giant cat. How it got that way is made explicit nowhere, and we never see it change form into anything else, as we might expect it to do if it were either a nekomata or a bakeneko. I suppose either one is a plausible origin, and the distinction between the two is vague even in legend. Perhaps we never see it change shape because we only see it in the performance of job-related duties, for which it is required to be bus-shaped.
I must say that, with respect to the nekomata, I have had several cats older than 10 years, and none of them have exhibited much in the way of shamanic or necromantic powers. You'd think they could at least get the can of cat food open. TCC (talk) (contribs) 04:04, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Why should they? All they have to do is summon a human to do it. :-) GreenReaper (talk) 20:05, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Catbus is explicitly called a bakeneko in "The Catbus" song from soundtrack CD to Miyazaki's "Tonari no Totoro". Maurog 21:57, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kekonekobasu[edit]

The article implied that the "kitten bus" short is no longer shown at Ghibli museum. Though this may have once been true, it is shown there now daily (along with a few other short movies... actually it is shown a couple times for each 2 hour block visitors are allowed in). "Visibly Male?"[edit]

Any proof of this?

I don't have the video.

aeryka 04:26, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Then you won't see the proof. Look for screenshots of the Catbus running on the electrical lines, when he's seen from below. It's pretty unmistakable. TCC (talk) (contribs) 06:01, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to say I agree. I remember giggling as a child when I saw his little man bumps Here is an image that shows his testicles http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1258/1355972123_12a28bd3b6.jpg?v=0 Ciper (talk) 03:09, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The fact that it has two bumps there does not make it male; forgive me for being a pedant, but I don't think any of us are in a position to make reliable anatomical suppositions about a giant, 12-legged flying cat(!) Gunstar hero (talk) 15:36, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps you haven't seen cat testicles, but those bumps are definitely testicles. --129.33.1.37 (talk) 15:41, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ummm why does this need to be in the article again? This sounds like an opinion rather than a fact based on a glimpse you see in the anime, how is that relible? Also who cares, by saying it is a grinning cat you can let the reader decide for him/herself. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 05:46, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, this is original research. Who's to say the bumps aren't a pair of underdeveloped legs? Plantdrew (talk) 01:55, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dude, sup?[edit]

I simply do not understand why there isn't a section in this discussion page asking why this article exists. Seriously, it's one character in one movie. Why does it have its own wikipedia page?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.126.158.24 (talkcontribs)

See the discussion in the last AFD [1]. It is notable enough to have plenty of coverage, and there a large full scale model of it in a museum. Dream Focus 22:07, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
