About Ambazonia[edit]

Of course the independentist Southern Cameroons have been renamed into Ambazonia. But the Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium is a federalist movement, not an independentist movement.--Le Petit Chat (talk) 07:30, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I understand they aren't separatist, but what do sources say? @79.67.88.68: Thanks for you reply. They are of course in the opposition, since Biya's government considers that Anglophone Cameroon doesn't exist. But they are asking for federalism, not for independence. Ambazonia is used by foreign supporters(?) and by armed fighters (the Amba boys of your source), not by the "political" opposition. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I think you know about Ambazonia better than me. --Le Petit Chat (talk) 08:11, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Le Petit Chat: You were absolutely right to revert, there is a big difference between the political opposition and the separatists. The former, which includes Cameroon's main opposition party, the SDF, oppose independence. The separatists want their own country, and could not be arsed with Cameroon's political system (which have never allowed them to operate freely anyway). The CACSC was never an independence movement, and merely wanted autonomy as part of Cameroon. Mikrobølgeovn (talk) 22:45, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, regarding the names - the separatists use "Ambazonia" and "Southern Cameroons" interchangeably, but that does not mean that they are synonymous. Southern Cameroons was the name of a former political entity ruled by Britain, not an independent country. On Wikipedia, it is probably best to use "Southern Cameroons" when talking about the colonial period or with the Anglophone regions in general, and "Ambazonia" when writing about separatist history.
