history section reference link[edit]

please check and fix the link at the end of the history section. I copied it form the Redstone Old Fort page and I don't think it should show as the number 2. NatalieOne 16:31, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

absorb Redstone Old Fort?[edit]

I put about half of the Redstone Old Fort page into the history of this article. Should the whole Redstone page just be absorbed into the history of Brownsville? NatalieOne 16:33, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cast iron bridge[edit]

The first cast iron bridge in America is in the downtown section of Brownsville. It does not cross the river to West Brownsville, but instead bridges Dunlap's Creek as one approaches the river from the east on the National Pike or Route 40. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.84.136.135 (talk) 03:20, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Population before 1850 relative to Pittsburgh[edit]

I removed this section, which gave no citation:

“It exceeded nearby Pittsburgh in population and economy until well into the 1850s, when the railroads connected Pittsburgh with Kanesville, Iowa on the Missouri River in the Midwest, and established a major traffic route. Being bypassed by the major railroad route permanently affected Brownsville's economy and made it subsidiary to Pittsburgh.”

The U. S. Census list of largest urban places for 1820 shows Pittsburgh at number 23; Brownsville does not appear:

The similar list for 1840 shows Pittsburgh at number 17; again, Brownsville does not appear in the top 100:

If a reliable reference could be found, the information I removed should be restored, since it would be an interesting discovery. To be reliable, the reference would need to explain why Brownsville, which would have had to be one of the 25 largest cities in the country to exceed Pittsburgh’s population, does not appear on the census list of largest urban places in 1820 or 1840. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cbaile19 (talk • contribs) 15:27, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
