RfC: Premiere year: 1989 or 1990?[edit]

Should this article say that Bride of Re-Animator premiered/was released in 1989 or 1990? —Matthew - (talk) 21:09, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: As I type this, the first sentence in the article for Bride of Re-Animator describes it as a 1990 film, and the page's infobox lists a more specific premiere date of September 8, 1990 at TIFF. However, there are multiple sources which refer to the film as having premiered or been released in 1989, including the following:

It should be 1990. I saw this discussion in recent changes and wanted to investigate why 1989 is a possibility. IMDb here indicated it was the Sitges Film Festival in October 1989. Since this is not a reliable source but a useful clue, I sought a reliable source. It turns out that this says the film was an official selection (under PEL·LÍCULES) in 1990. If Sitges was the basis for 1989, and it is wrong, then there is no other reason why it would be 1989. I will contact IMDb to make this correction. It may also have to do with the fact that the end credits for Bride of Re-Animator include the notice "© 1989 Re-Animator II Productions, Inc." I'm not sure which of the sources I mentioned based their information on that, on IMDb, or on something else. The copyright notice certainly indicates that the film was copyrighted in 1989, but I'm not sure if the film was also released that year. I think I'm going to look into purchasing some old Fangoria or Cinefantastique magazines from around that time to see if there's any relevant information there. —Matthew - (talk) 17:11, 13 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Considering that the film was released at the start of 1990, it was very likely completed in 1989 and got the copyright then. FYI, the IMDb page now says 1990 for the earliest release year, having corrected the Sitges screening from 1989 to 1990. Erik (talk | contrib) ^{(ping me)} 21:09, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
