Many of the posters/cartoons during the time of war (and some, after the war) were reprinted with Enlish captions and forwarded to the commitees in the West (Europe and US) to be disseminated for propaganda purposes to help the war effort. Anchorite 15:31, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is birthdate accurate?[edit]

The entry says Sept 28. However, this article states he celebrated 107th birthday "this week". I doublechecked the Hebrew calendar, and the 28th of Sept in 1900 was Tishrei 5, which would have been Sept 17th this year, so that isn't the discrepancy. Gavroche42 18:00, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Born in 1899 or 1900?[edit]

He's been reported to be born in 1900 for quite some time. At this point we have no evidence to support 1899 other than the family now says so...however, given his age was less than 110 it's not a huge issue.Ryoung122 01:47, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cartoonist Boris Efimov Aged 108 Passes Away 1.10.2008

The well-known Soviet and Russian political cartoonist and artist Boris Efimov, aged 108, died on the night of October 1st in Moscow.

Just a few days before Boris Efimov had celebrated his 108th birthday.

Boris Efimov (Fridlyand) was born on 15 (28) September 1900 in Kiev. He started drawing very early, from about the age of five.

In 1918 Efimov’s caricatures on poet Alexander Blok first time appeared in Zritel (Spectator) journal.

From 1922 the artist moved to Moscow, where he worked for newspapers Pravda and Izvestia and the satiric journal Crocodile. From 1941 on he returned to the genre of political caricature and took an active part in propaganda campaigns of the Soviet Regime.

From August 2002 he headed the caricature art department of the Russian Academy of Arts. In 2006 Boris Efimov partook in preparation of the book Autograph of the Century. On 28th September 2007, on his 107th birthday, he was assigned the principal artist of the Izvestia newspaper.
