early discussion[edit]

According to his interview yesterday on WOCL 105.9 in Orlando, he was indeed fired for his LSD trip. I modified the entry to reflect this. -- ronincyberpunkMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMK

  • Is it just me or does anyone else find the signature on that last post really suspicious? I think we need a way to verify the claim that this interview happened. Murple 16:44, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • There are a few ways to deal with this:
    • First, this article has to comply with WP:BLP. If you think the statement could be controversial or potentially libelous, remove it from the article. (See the banner at the top of this page.)
    • Second, if you don't think it's controversial or potentially libelous, but you just want a better source, put {{fact|date=May 2007}} after the statement. As an alternative, or in addition, leave a message at User talk:Ronincyberpunk and ask him about it.
    • Finally, if don't think it's controversial or potentially libelous, and you want a better source, you could try to find one yourself. Peter Jebsen has interviewed many of the folks in P-Funk and has posted his interviews at New Funk Times, although it looks like the front page has been hacked. You could also try Google.
    • Personally, I've read a great deal about Bootsy and the rest of the Funk Mob, and I've heard the story about the acid trip before. I don't know if JB fired Bootsy or if Bootsy quit, but Bootsy says that the neck of his bass turned into a snake. But I don't have a reliable source at hand. I'll see what I can dig up. — Malik Shabazz (Talk | contribs) 18:43, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at the history, I see that story did not appear in the original 2002 article, only appearing in April 2004 as a "possibly apocryphal" story. Then in June 2006, the above editor removed "possibly apocryphal", thus elevating the story to fact. Yet, after nearly 4 years, no source (reliable or otherwise) has been cited in the article. An unsourced claim that a worker was fired for being under the influence of LSD while on the job certainly sounds potentially libelous to me, so I removed it. --Zahzuhzaz (talk) 03:36, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here Collins tells the story in his own words: [1] JezGrove (talk) 19:54, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Space Bass.jpg[edit]

Image:Space Bass.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 08:33, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article doesn't currently mention Bootsy's involvement in performing the soundtrack for Superbad (2007). Can someone with a verifiable source (e.g., recent interview or magazine article) fill in the details? Robert K S 20:15, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced material[edit]

The following is unsourced information:

  • Bootsy has stated that Buckethead is his best friend in a review for Electric Tears, found on Guitar Nine. They often perform together, including recently at a James Brown tribute concert on 22 December 2007.
  • Is the namesake of rapper Lil Boosie (his parents nicknamed him after Collins. Because of their southern drawl, its prounounced as Boosie)
  • Bootsy features on Fatboy Slim's addition to the Late Night Tales series of mix albums includes a spoken-word track of Bootsy reading a poem by Paul Heaton.
  • Bootsy's video for "Party on Plastic" was filmed at a California Photon center in order to make use of the "futuristic" architecture.
  • Bootsy is the father of former Death Row Records rapper RBX.

While this is interesting, we can't use it unless you provide a source. Also, none of this is really trivia, as trivia by its definition is "unimportant information" - it therefore shouldn't be in a trivia section but instead the information should be incorporated into the main article. - Tbsdy lives (talk) 12:18, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cinncinati or Detroit[edit]

The article has him moving to two cities after James Brown. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.64.235.42 (talk) 20:04, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Buckethead?[edit]

Didn't he perform with Buckethead? I know he was also a guest-voice in a Buckethead DVD. -Wolfinator-x

Also, he was part of an experimental-metal band with Buckethead, so that should be added to genres. -Wolfinator-x

Bass[edit]

What a weird basses he used. Why star form?Any info about these instruments? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.78.227.246 (talk) 16:13, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Interview with some additional info[edit]

Clayton Perry, Interview: Bootsy Collins – Funk Bassist, Singer and Songwriter, claytonperry.com, March 25, 2011. Among other things, quite a bit about how he first started playing as a child. Someone might want to mine this. - Jmabel | Talk 00:43, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

add wikilnk[edit]

you should add a wikilink to the article Five Minutes (Bonzo Goes to Washington song). instead of just saying it's there it should be a link to the article --134.193.112.62 (talk) 21:22, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Good point. Next time, just go ahead and add it yourself. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 21:25, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Religious?[edit]

Is Bootsy Collins a Christian? He appears on the TobyMac album Diverse City and says, "Gospel-zillio, and that's for really though." --134.193.112.62 (talk) 21:39, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

On Display in North Korea[edit]

The following text was allowed to stay on the page for a matter of hours before a playa with hate in his heart acting as Wiki-police swooped in and removed it all;

"Bootsy Collins is the only known Funk musician to have his work added to the collection at North Korea’s International Friendship Exhibition. In 2007 a copy of Back in the Day: The Best of Bootsy was presented to North Korean officials for addition to the odd assortment of Kim Jong Il tribute booty assembled in the new wing of the exhibition. [13]"

This begs the questions -- which Wikipolice are the thugs in charge of enforcing their will on this page? How does one go about begging for their benevolent consideration to deem a contribution worthy of their mighty high standards? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.220.193.142 (talk) 19:52, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't the "thug in charge" who deleted your contribution, but I agree with the decision. Being the only musician at the International Friendship Exhibition would be significant. Being the only funk musician... now you're splitting hairs. It just isn't important enough to merit mention in an encyclopedia article. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 20:12, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I did the revert. I love Bootsy, but I don't think this is really notable. When someone want to learn about Bootsy, do they really need to know about some exhibit in Korea, or do they want to know about his history with the Rubber Band, George Clinton, and James Brown? Bakkster Man (talk) 20:30, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think you're missing the point. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.220.193.142 (talk) 21:47, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
no you are missing the point... in spite of the wikipedia propaganda you are not welcome to step in and write whatever you want...this page is guarded by the folks who decide what goes in the page...your stuff has to pass their review board and if they decide then your contribution gets tossed... these folks are not going to make room for you because they own this page...that is just the way it is...plus that no matter how significant you might think the north korea connection is you got to realize that the average bootsy fan is pretty clueless about that sort of stuff so you are never going to get them to agree...wikipedia is no encyclopedia... wikipedia is turf and turf is always protected. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.117.33.5 (talk) 08:38, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So, you think Encyclopedia Britanica would include trivia like this on their entry about Bootsy? Heck, they don't even have an entry on Bootsy at all! It's not being kept here because it's not notable overall to who Bootsy is. Bakkster Man (talk) 13:01, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Boondocks, A pimp named slickbag[edit]

In the boondocks they based one of the characters "A pimp named slickback" on bootsy collins. Instead of the yellow hat, they gave him a purple one, but the bootsy sound always appears in the background whenever 'a pimp named slickback' enters the scene. They gave the animated character a small goatee that bootsy doesn't have. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.45.33.155 (talk) 21:02, 20 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
