Notable Pupils[edit]

I believe Norman Davies is a former pupil

Date of Chorley New Road building[edit]

"In 1913, it was re-endowed by Viscount Leverhulme and the current building was completed on Chorley New Road."

This seems to imply that current building was completed in 1913. --jmb 14:36, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Amir Khan[edit]

Someone has put on the Bolton page that the boxer Amir Khan was a pupil of Bolton School. His website does not seem to confirm this. I put a query against the line but no one has confirmed it or removed it. Can anyone here confirm that he was not a pupil of Bolton School so the comment can be removed? --jmb 23:05, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Amir Khan was not a student at Bolton School. He has visited the school on one occasion for a charity event. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by AJESR1 (talkcontribs) 12:31, 20 July 2007.
I just wanted confirmation before deleting the entry, someone did confirm it and his name was removed. --jmb 13:57, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Millennium Yacht[edit]

This is a request to update a piece of information on the Bolton School page. The Millennium Yacht has been christened the 'Tenacity of Bolton' and was launched during March/April of 2007.

Editing proposals:[edit]

1) In extracurricular activities:

( For the past eight years, the school has been building a concrete yacht as a millennium project ("The Third Millennium Ketch"). The boat is being constructed in a temporary boat shed attached to the school. This is scheduled for launch in 2007, and will be owned by the school and used for outdoor pursuits.

The boat was originally intended to be finished in the year 2000 and was called "The Millennium Yacht". However, due to the scale of the project, the ketch wasn't finished in 2000 and the project has now been completed. As of May 2007 the boat, christened "The Tenacity of Bolton" has been finished and its boat shed removed.)

this needs to be condensed into 1 paragraph, its a muddle of conflicting words, ie its finished and the above sentence says it isnt.

2)

The line

( The motto of the school (used only by the Boys' Division) is Mutare Vel Timere Sperno, meaning "I scorn to change or to fear". )

Needs changing to:

( The motto of the school previously used by the Boys' Division is: Mutare Vel Timere Sperno, meaning "I scorn to change or to fear". ) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Boxrick (talkcontribs) 16:58, August 27, 2007 (UTC)

The motto is still used, so changing it to 'previously' is wrong. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.109.122.38 (talk) 17:08, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"The Boys' Division has announced that Mr. Brooker is to retire at the end of the next school year in order to spend more time with his family. The governing body of the school is currently searching for a replacement." - The school has found a replacement headmaster in Mr. philip Britton who is currently Deputy Head of the Grammar School at Leeds. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.198.104.124 (talk) 21:39, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mr Percik Is retiring at the end of this year and the school has just started plans to build a new junior boys school —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.2.4.50 (talk) 21:30, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mr Britton is the headmaster. The yacht is complete. I go there, i know this is right —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.30.129.5 (talk) 17:27, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Requested re-assessment[edit]

I think the original assessment (start/mid) is consistent with our ratings. The high importance English schools are generally those which are already listed in Microsoft Encarta or other encyclopedias and those which have long lists of important alumni. The top 20 ranking is in fact an unreferenced claim for just one year (2004). The other unreferenced rankings in the article place it outside the top 100 in the league tables. However, the school was founded in 1516, and has a surprisingly short list of alumni for its age (only one before the twentieth century) so is potentially more important than is apparent from the present article. If the article and list of alumni could be expanded, then I suggest that the editors come back for a re-assessment. Dahliarose 18:48, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Smallarms.jpg[edit]

Image:Smallarms.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
