Should there be a disambiguation page? Simono1958

There should be a disambiguation page as this article mixes the organisation BRC and local biological records centres T a august (talk) 10:16, 4 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Either that, or what is a fairly short article at present could actually begin by explaining what a biological records centre is, because the functions are basically the same in collecting, managing and disseminating biodiversity data from a given region, wherever the BRC/LRC is located. Then one subsection could expand the national biological records centre (ie the former Monks Woood BRC established by Franklyn Perring, now at CEH Wallingford) and its work, whilst another section could explain the role of regional BRCs/LRCs, the relationship with the NBN Gateway and ALERC. (It was Franklyn who set the ball rolling for the establishment of biological records centres (mainly in museums at that time) across Britain in an influential publication around 1973, so there's a good strong link between the national and local BRCs. It was only later that terms like Local Records Centre (LRC) and Local Environmental Records Centre (LERCs) came to be used as well as biological records centre. This change of acronym was promoted by the work of Sarah Hawkswell in the early/mid 1990s as more and more Wildlife Trusts began to take on biological records centre functions from museums, and at a time when computerisation (via RECORDER 3) was beginning to make the task of data retrieval and providing environmental consultancy services more practicable and desirable.
Bearing in mind in the last 90 days this current page has averaged 4 reads a day, I'd suggest starting off with this approach, rather than ending up with two weak articles on the same subject and a DAB page. Maybe consider splitting it up later once there's actually been some effort to put some real substance into the article? (I've got a biography of Franklyn Perring lined up on my 'to do' list, which might help further reinforce the link between the national and local biological records centres). Okay this sounds good to me. I will be adding to this article over the next week or so. First time editing so any comments welcome. T a august (talk) 09:51, 5 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I have made my major edits. It would be good to add the BRC logo to the info box but I dont appear to be an established enough user to upload it myself. Perhap someone can help out? T a august (talk) 12:11, 11 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
